Is there another emergency vet in your area? |
Patti is calling the clinic again to tell them she is bringing Pixie back for an X-ray. She said that Pixie's left leg is very strange...as if it's not in the socket, but not at the knee, but seems to be in the hip area. It is very limp. Why did they not do something when she first went to the clinic. They did put a bow in Pixie's hair. The lease of Patti's worries that Pixie have a bow in her hair. Any thoughts? Kellie..are you here? What do you think? |
i dont' know either. but grade 4 LP usually requires surgery to fix i believe. do you think it's because of the LP causing her to be in pain? sounds like a big possibility to me if you say the knees are out of socket. |

I hope you can get some better answers from a vet soon, I know what it feels like not to have much faith in the vet that is giving the treatment. I hope it isn't to serious! hugs. |

A bow! Poor baby. Glad Patti is going to demand xrays. |
Patti i'm sorry you got stuck with the new guy er vet. its very frustrating, i know. LP and a torn cruciate can both occur from trauma, so if she was playing rough, or jumping on or off something she could have tweaked it just the right way to cause a problem. An x-ray will show a luxated patella and sometimes you can determine a cruciate tear as well by the angle the femur and tibia create. i'd want more answers and ask to see another er vet. usually there is more than one on duty at an emergency hospital |

this poor baby. if she can make it through the night comfortably I'd take her to an orthopaedic surgeon first thing in the morning. sending healing thoughts and I hope you get an answer soon. |
Patti's just got back to the ER Clinic. She left her phone plugged in in the car because it's low battery, but will come out and call me when they're doing the x-ray. Patti says she feels a little better because she at first thought it seemed neurological and now she doesn't think so. Not that the other possibilities are good, but neurological is scary and meds wouldn't do much for that, where now Pixie is no longer panting. I read her your posts as she drove to the clinic. Thanks everyone and thanks Kellie! |

No one deserves this kind of scare, but Patti especially. I'll check back in later tonight for your updates Connie. Hoping for some good news. |
Poor baby! sending prayers to Pixie & family:aimeeyork |
If she can't get any answers tonight (God forbid), then on ortho can be called in the morning. ER clinics can be funny things and some vets do not have enough ER experience to be working there... Vets with less experience can be paid less and that's all I'm gonna say... :( I'm sorry Patti. |
Patti, sending prayers that you can find out it is something that can be fixed. It doesn't sound neurological to me. Something was wrong or gave out or perhaps she hurt herself when no one was around. Thinking of you... |
Whatever it is, at least Patti is trying to help her dog. She is smart to be back at the vet clinic to get an answer. I can't stand seeing a dog in pain. I hope Pixie is okay, we are sending good thoughts her way. |
Oh Pixie and Patti :(! I hope you get answers very soon, the xray is a very good idea. The panting and licking of lips is likely from pain, she may also feel nauseous from pain - and they may lick their lips from that as well. Since she is LP4, it makes me suspect the knee is injured and itsLP related -or- the instability of the knee caused her to compensate - and she did something funky, and injured something above or below the knee when the knee was "popping" or gave out a little. Lots of love coming your way! Be strong Pixie and please get well very soon! |
Oh no, I hope everything is going to be ok! I will say prayers for Pixie! |
Patti just called. She asked for a new vet and got one who has been very thorough and answering any questions. It is her left knee that is out and won't go back in because of inflammation. He said the Hip and ALC felt okay, but the Xray could tell more. He will read the XRay and also leave it for the guys to read in the morning. Patti is very impressed with him. He told her she should see her ortho and that this doesn't necessarily mean surgery...that when the inflammation goes away, it could pop back in on it's own. Patti will most likely start a thread in Sick/emergency when she returns home. She thanks all of you for your help, concern and prayers. Poor little Pixie. |
well at least she has some answers. here's hoping it's nothing too serious and can be fixed with some pain meds/anti-inflammatories and a few day's rest. hope they both can get some rest tonight. what a scare! |
Poor baby Pixie. I know Patti is so upset.. So so sorry Patti. I didnt know that Bella had an unstable patella. She was very excited one day and was bouncing up and down on her back legs. She came down and it lux'd she was in so much pain. I took her right away and they xray'd and gave metacam and i had to crate her for 6 weeks. she has a slight lp and strenghten it by walking up hill which the vet said would strenghten the structures around her knee to keep it from luxating. so far so good! she used to favor it when she runs..but not now. I will be praying for you guys Patti |
At least she is getting some answers tonight. |
Sending prayers and hugs your way. |
I hope Pixie is ok. It is so scary when they can't figure out what is wrong with your baby! |
Oh Patti dear friend i'm just now seeing this dear. i hope Pixi is ok! Sadie was diagnosed with LP and like you i had to have a second opinioin because the first one just wanted to go into xrays without knowing what it was. we went to Shoal creek, which i would later in life work for hte owner of :D and they said yes it's LP, don't do surgery yet, let it calm down and become less inflamed and then we'll see if it goes back in. Like Pixi, Sadie could not walk on it and a few times did even fall over. she did not whine in pain, but she was obviously hurting. after a couple weeks it went back in and she started using it again. now we are seeing a VOM for treatment to continue to allow the muscles and ligaments around the injury to heal up and stop pulling on her knee. here's the link for V.O.M. if surgery isn't going to be an option for you, financially or because it's only a grade 1-3 try this method of healing instead. surgery is our last option and thankfully for us, ours is a grade 2 upper. and we don't need surgery and VOM is working for Sadie. here's the link: Practitioners In Your Area praying for you and Pixi tonight. |
Praying for little Pixie. Hoping the inflammation will reduce quickly and she will feel much better soon. I have the human type of luxating patella, since age 9 years of age it was diagnosed. I had ALOT of problems with my legs collapsing as a child and as an adult. And had surgery when I was 10 years old, which was supposed to be 99.9% corrective. Did not work! Failed! I know for me, this can be very painful when ever the knee is "out". And when it gets stuck.... just as little Pixie is experiencing.... there are really no words I can find to describe how bad this feels (pain). I will keep little Pixie in my prayers. |
