Something's wrong with my puppy Hello everyone. This is my first post. Something really weird happened to my 5 week old female puppy (out of a litter of 6). Her back legs went out. She hasn't lost her appetite nor does she seem to be in pain. She continues to play and be energetic and can stand and give a few steps before her legs give out. I'm not sure what's going on as she was perfectly fine and all of a sudden this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am planning on taking her to the vet on Saturday. :( |

She needs to be seen by a vet. We can share experiences but it won't really help until you have a proper diagnosis. Good luck, and I'm sorry your first post has to be for help. |
Did you say 5 weeks? Are you the breeder, as that is way too young for a baby to be taken from her mom. I hope that all goes well at the vets, you and your little one will be in my prayers. |
Why are you waiting until Saturday? Please take her in now! |
Did your puppy just recently get a vaccination if so how long ago? This is neurological so get your pup to neurologist if vet cannot figure this out from blood work run for infectious disease and checking liver enzymes. If nothing shows up on blood work get your dog to a neurologist NOW. If it were me i would just go straight to neurologist as they can do all the testing there for everything and do a full neurological exam before any testing. I am so sorry this seems to be happening alot recently here :( |
Thanks to everyone for the advice, Quote:

It is too early for a specialist...see the regular vet and go from there..best wishes |

Hi. I do have a regular vet but they are open til 5. I wanted to wait til Saturday as I love my vet. However, you're right, she needs to go right away. I will take her in right after work today. |

Wasn't there a pup on here that had something called swimmers legs or something like that? |
Hi. I don't believe she has swimmer's legs. She was born fine. It happened suddenly and she can walk (even run) but the legs give out suddenly. Thank you for the comment though. |
Hope that all goes well at the vet today. Prayers going out for her. |
Thank you. |

Actually, it is constant but she's able to stand & walk/run for about 6 steps max before the back legs give out. Seems like its actually only one leg but I can't tell for sure. I already checked her legs and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. Again, she's very active and playful w/good appetite & responds well to me. I just don't know what to think. |

I hope it is nothing serious. Please let us know how the visit goes today. It is very, very important to get her in now rather than to wait. If it is neurological sometimes time is of the essence! |
Hoping it is nothing serious. Good luck. |
Thank you. Will keep you posted. |
i would think LP?... |
That has come to mind. I hope not. I don't want to put her through surgery. |

Right. Hopefully it's nothing but a pinched nerve. |
Did she go to the vet today? Please update. Hoping she is ok. |
Just seeing this. I hope you were able to get her to the vet today. I think your experience sounds scary and def. wouldn't want to wait til Sat.. I will be sending prayers for your little girl. Look forward for an update. |
