They ate 1/2 # pencil !
 
I know they don't use lead in pencils, anymore, but I came home to find 1/2 of a #2 pencil chewed up...The other half was still there...I'm sure they shared it...The vet is closed, and I just need to know if anyone has experienced this, and what to watch for? They're running around like nothing is wrong, but I'm very concerned...I don't want to subject them to the charcoal and all that goes w/it, in the emergency room, if it's not necessary, and I'm thinking that it's probably already passed their stomachs, anyway...Apple ate an eyebrow pencil, once, and the vet did the charcoal, and before we got home, she'd chucked it all up...Anyone???

did they actually eat any part of the pencil or did they just chew on it? the graphite isn't poisonous but if there are large pieces of the pencil missing they might be sharp and could puncture the intestines.

no i don't think there is anything you can do at home besides watch them for signs of stomach pains, vomiting and/or lethargy. you can call the emergency vet and ask them what you should do

Well, from everything I've read, from the past, on here, they should be o.k., as long as they don't have any issues passing them...All I can do is just ask you guys to pray for their safety...I believe in the power of prayer...And of course, I will be watching their next poopies, which will be in the morning, because they've already done their evening poopies...Thanks for the answers, and thanks, even more, for the prayers...

you have prayers from the d gang :) I think they will be ok :)

My dex has eaten part of a popcycle stick before and was fine and YES dh is no longer allowed to have fudgesicles - what is it about men that they cannot make it to the trash can lolll but can empty it

I had one of mine chew on a pencil, but she didn't eat a lot of it. She was fine. Hopefully they chewed it into small pieces first. I will keep them in my prayers.

Oh, thank you, sooooooo much, for the prayers "d gang"...I know we have to take responsibility, and do what we know best to do, but, as you know, prayer is the ultimate answer...

yep and yorkie prayers are very powerful i have found ;) hang in there

Prayers coming from us too. Jada ate a popsicle stick too and we didn't have any problems. DS left it laying on the end table last summer and I about had a stroke.

Thanks Michelle, I know I can always count on your to storm heaven for me :hug:I never worried about these type of things w/my big dogs, but these little guys keep me on pins and needles :(

I agree they will probably be fine. I'll say some prayers for them.
I know what you mean about men, I live with 5 of them and not one seems to know how to put anything in the trash. On the counter, the table, the chair, in the sofa cushion, but not in the can. By the way there is one in every room.

I hope everything is okay with the little ones today Maggie! I will be keeping them in my thoughts. Bailey chewed a pencil too, and has chewed on wood numerous times! You can't help but worry!

Thanks Darlene...knowing that other babies have done this horrible thing and are doing well, is good news...So far, so good...I'm watching poopies w/an eagle eye! I'm thinking that their gastric juices break down food, so must break down pencils and other things like that, to make them pass through effectively?...Whew, these little guys are something else...I'm sure more Yorkie moms have grey hair, than other breed owners...

Just checking in this morning to see how Apple and Buzz, the pencil bandits are doing this morning. Hoping for good poops this morning. Did you ever think you would be picking up and examining poops? ( I do it with every poop I pick up) LOL The worries never end with these curious little buggers. :)

You know, Michelle, yesterday, when I went on a pet sit, I purposely "secured" those pencils (I use them in my appointment book), before I left...I don't know how one ended up on the floor...It's amazing what an YBI (Yorkie Bureau of Investigation) you have to be w/these guys...both for what goes in and what comes "out" lol...I'm still on poop patrol, today...I managed to see Buzz' morning bm, but Apple sneaked one, outside, this a.m. I think? Anyway, thanks for asking, and I'll keep you posted...

Missed this post, how are the culprits doing today? Maggie May is always chomping on something she shouldn't be. :( I have come home to find chewed up pencils a couple of times. The other thing that she's gotten a hold of was a small piece of a dowel rod that we were using to push their kong stuffing out with.

She has serious chewing habits.

They seem to be fine, and it's been 36 hrs., so I think they're in the clear...Running around like mad, waiting for their breakfast...I swear I'm constantly on the look-out for any tiny little anything they might be able to get into, and they still manage to find something!....My two have serious chewing habits too :rolleyes:
