Scared to death! I have had my little baby for one week and this morning he scared us to death with a hypoglycemic episode. He looked completely dead! After force feeding him some waffle syrup and nutrical, he has perked back up. He is acting a bit weird still but playing around. Anyone have any advice? I have been giving nutrical 3-4 times a day. The last dose before I found him at 8 am this morning was around 4 am. He was fine last night....playing and eating. I did take him to the vet this morning after the episode and I am kind of irritated because he didn't even examine him! He made me feel like I was overreacting or something. But my baby looked dead this morning when I found him! Please...does anyone have any advice on how to not let this ever happen again? I cannot lose this little guy:) |
don't feel bad it happened to me with dex - he was my first dog and vet had told me luckily about hypoglycemia the day before and to rub honey on gums if it happened. I was half listening as had no clue what he was talking about. The next day whamo i cam home from work and my dex was on his side and kind of out of it and i called my mom in tears saying i think i killed my puppy so she ran over and i rubbed honey on his gums ran him to the pet store where i got him and they gave him nutrical and pedialyte and he perked up real fast and was fine. I was scared to death. I then took him to work every day with me for several months and got my dee dee for him to have company. I was checking on him every 2 hrs but he apparently was not eating enough and i was new to all this. I was so scared so i know how you felt. There is another thread where ann was talking about the nutrical and food before bed. I will try to find it for you Welcome to YT |

Thank you Thank you guys very much! I was up all night with my lil' guy as a paranoid mommy I think:) I forced him to eat every 2-3 hours and I gave him nutrical also because like I said I am paranoid:) He is much, much better and I am going to a new vet tomorrow. Thanks again~ |
That IS scary and so glad he's ok now ! I'd be keeping a very close eye on him and it sounds like you're doing what's best good luck ! I know you won't get that image out of your mind - we fall in love so fast and want the best for them....I've never dealt with this but from what I've read so many times - it can be heartbreaking....or go the other way - like it did with you ! Lucky you acted quickly A vet should never 'blow off' this kind of thing and should have advised you in detail what to look for |
