i think seeker broke his leg!!! my gosh, we just got him yesterday. he jumped off the couch and yelped. now he wont put pressure on his from left paw....i cant believe this. he is 9 weeks old. i feel horrible....its more of his paw that anything else cause i can move his leg, he gets a little antsy when i move his angle but it does move fine and its his actual paw that hurts him....im gonna have to find an open vet tomarrow, we hadnt actually picked one. our other dog we used banfield but i wasnt thrilled with them. any advice for overnight? ive put some ice on it, but he really doesnt want me to touch it. is there a chance that some rest overnight will help the little man???? my husbands wondering what we will be paying now :( i know he will do anything to make him better, but he is the sole provider for our family so he worries abot the finances most... |
I'm sorry this happened but honestly i would take him to an emergency vet tonight to have him x-rayed. he's so young and i would be worried sick. |
I agree he should see a vet ASAP, you don't want him hurting until tomorrow. They can give him pain medicine to help him rest tonight. |
Hopefully he just sprained it and will be better in a day or two. You may want to have him checked out tonight at an er vet to be safe. They may be able to tell by examining him if he needs xrays or not. For the future, I would get stairs or a ramp and train him to use them to get up and down. |

i'm thinking that if this pup broke his leg it is a fracture of the radius/ulna right above the carpus. its a very popular breaking spot on small dogs. check out this page Fractured Radius/Ulna (Toy Breed) - Acacia Pet Clinic -We Care About Pets as it has some nice shots |
im keeping him off it, completley. i am also home alone with my sleeping 2 and 5 year old, and the nearest 24 hr is an hour away. it may be horrible, but he has to wait till tomarrow.....i really think its the paw. my daughter said a prayer tonight that he will be bettter in the morning |
i can squueze all along his leg, its more near his toes and he wimpers |

if you can't get to the vet until morning then i'd put him in his crate and let him rest. only take him out to potty. |
ill be doing that. thanks for the advice, please send us some healing vibes for the little boy |
I'm sorry to hear about your little one's accident. I sure hope it's just sprained. Someone already mentioned that you'll probably need to get some stairs for your little one - this is a great suggestion. I have about 6 sets - I got them at Walgreen's for $10 each. I didn't buy them all at once but when we added Max to our family I needed to buy more. If you can't afford the stairs right away - please put some pillows all over the floor. These little terriers aren't afraid of too much - so you'll have to be afraid for him. Please don't put him anywhere unattended. Please don't take your hand or eyes off of him because whatever he can get into or off of - he will! :D I still close my bathroom doors when I leave the house and my 2 kids are 3 & 4 yrs old. LOL! We had one member here that forgot her Nair bottle on the bathroom floor and her puppy licked it - that poor baby got burned badly. Sooo many things can happen. Your puppy is just like a new born baby so you really need to look at your house in the same way - only it's called "puppy proofing"! :p Your puppy is really young, too. So you'll probably be going through a lot of chewing/biting. Please keep a close eye on anything that he can get into on the floor as well. Post some pictures when you can - we'd love to see him. Good Luck! |
