i think seeker broke his leg!!! my gosh, we just got him yesterday. he jumped off the couch and yelped. now he wont put pressure on his from left paw....i cant believe this. he is 9 weeks old. i feel horrible....its more of his paw that anything else cause i can move his leg, he gets a little antsy when i move his angle but it does move fine and its his actual paw that hurts him....im gonna have to find an open vet tomarrow, we hadnt actually picked one. our other dog we used banfield but i wasnt thrilled with them. any advice for overnight? ive put some ice on it, but he really doesnt want me to touch it. is there a chance that some rest overnight will help the little man???? my husbands wondering what we will be paying now :( i know he will do anything to make him better, but he is the sole provider for our family so he worries abot the finances most... |
I'm sorry this happened but honestly i would take him to an emergency vet tonight to have him x-rayed. he's so young and i would be worried sick. |
I agree he should see a vet ASAP, you don't want him hurting until tomorrow. They can give him pain medicine to help him rest tonight. |
Hopefully he just sprained it and will be better in a day or two. You may want to have him checked out tonight at an er vet to be safe. They may be able to tell by examining him if he needs xrays or not. For the future, I would get stairs or a ramp and train him to use them to get up and down. |

i'm thinking that if this pup broke his leg it is a fracture of the radius/ulna right above the carpus. its a very popular breaking spot on small dogs. check out this page Fractured Radius/Ulna (Toy Breed) - Acacia Pet Clinic -We Care About Pets as it has some nice shots |
im keeping him off it, completley. i am also home alone with my sleeping 2 and 5 year old, and the nearest 24 hr is an hour away. it may be horrible, but he has to wait till tomarrow.....i really think its the paw. my daughter said a prayer tonight that he will be bettter in the morning |
i can squueze all along his leg, its more near his toes and he wimpers |

if you can't get to the vet until morning then i'd put him in his crate and let him rest. only take him out to potty. |
ill be doing that. thanks for the advice, please send us some healing vibes for the little boy |
I'm sorry to hear about your little one's accident. I sure hope it's just sprained. Someone already mentioned that you'll probably need to get some stairs for your little one - this is a great suggestion. I have about 6 sets - I got them at Walgreen's for $10 each. I didn't buy them all at once but when we added Max to our family I needed to buy more. If you can't afford the stairs right away - please put some pillows all over the floor. These little terriers aren't afraid of too much - so you'll have to be afraid for him. Please don't put him anywhere unattended. Please don't take your hand or eyes off of him because whatever he can get into or off of - he will! :D I still close my bathroom doors when I leave the house and my 2 kids are 3 & 4 yrs old. LOL! We had one member here that forgot her Nair bottle on the bathroom floor and her puppy licked it - that poor baby got burned badly. Sooo many things can happen. Your puppy is just like a new born baby so you really need to look at your house in the same way - only it's called "puppy proofing"! :p Your puppy is really young, too. So you'll probably be going through a lot of chewing/biting. Please keep a close eye on anything that he can get into on the floor as well. Post some pictures when you can - we'd love to see him. Good Luck! |

I know I am late to the game here... but for future reference... if your location means, Newburgh New York This vet is open 24 hours and is right in New Windsor... Veterinary Animal Hospital : Middletown, Newburgh, Goshen, New Windsor New York (NY) Veterinarian, Emergency Vet ? Flannery Animal Hospital We used them for many years, they did countless surgeries and procedures on our dogs and were amazing. There is also the emergency vet in Middletown Animal Hospital | Newburg, New Windsor, Hudson Valley, NY | Orange County Animal Emergency Service They are open nights, weekends, and holidays and are really great people... they are more costly because they are only an emergency hospital. |
I see you mentioned finances being a concern of your husband's (as most do...lol!) but, can I just offer one very important recommendation for the future? Pet Insurance or a Monthly Pet Savings Account for "future" vetting expenses is probably one of the most important things you can do for your baby! Especially with toy breeds such as Yorkies, we all here on YT know too well what lies down the road for each of us at one time or another in our lil' ones lives. Don't be caught off guard when the unexpected happens. Especially with a young family of your own...it can really impact your finances if not better prepared. It is not unusual to expect a vetting to run in the hundreds if not thousands.:( There are many insurance plans out there but, a friend & foster mom for YTNR did some research on the different ones out there and found 24 PetWatch to be great. Here's a link to their site: Dog Insurance from 24Petwatch Pet Insurance |

also i have a friend whose dog has GME and she has the AKC insurance and they have covered all of the bills with neurology. She is almost maxed out though :( so make sure to check the max |
just wanted to add an update. we went to the vet, his foot was broken in 3 bones leading to his toes. He is still there, they had to sedate him to put a cast on but the vet said no surgery and he should heal just fine being that he is so tiny. i cant wait to go back to get him! |
Oh, poor baby, I'm so glad you took him in. |

yeh the vet knew it wasnt his ankle, and wasnt sure if she wanted to to the xray just cause either way it was gonna be casted, but she said lets dfo it and was happy we did cause he was so happy that we couldnt believe 3 bones were broke....i got to see the xray, it was amazing. |

I'm so glad you took him in. What a homecoming! |
glad you got him to the vet this morning for an x-ray, but sorry to hear that his little footie is broken. luckily a splint should do the trick and he'll be healed up in no time. |
Thanks for updating. Sorry to hear about his little foot. I would get ramps/stairs or even footstools to train him to use. |
