Brain tumors often have some identifiable clinical symptoms since they often damage nerves exiting the brain or the centers that control these nerves. Gait abnormalities, facial paralysis, vestibular disorders, blindness, or other signs of nervous system damage may occur with a brain tumor, helping to identify it. Dog Brain Tumor Symptoms Brain tumors can occur in any age dog, even puppies, but are most common in dogs older than 5 years of age if the dog is five years old or older, a brain tumor is the most likely reason for the onset of seizures. NewGMEDogs : NewGMEDogs you can post your info on this group and ask what they think as they have dogs with gme and went through mri and spinal taps and neurological testing and i am sure they can answer your questions in regards to that as well |

Since yesterday, IMXO, she is sleeping better and a lot, does not shake much. before even when she was sleeping, she woke up often, and didn't look comfortable, now she looks pretty good to me. |

let me know what you think when you get a chance to read that link as shaking head affects neck and that is all tied in to this as well I hope you can get a firm diagnosis soon as the sooner with neurological the better so she can get better |

Also the most common age of symptom onset are between 2 and 6 yrs old with Chiari and from the neuro symptoms you describe here my own dog with Chiari had some of these symptoms. Some Chiari dogs have all symptoms and some only have a couple of the symptoms. Deb can you direct her to Bellas thread ? The pred is one med used to treat Chiari , also omeprizole. Have you noticed her wheezing ? that is one common symptom. If you cannot afford the MRI & spinal I would recommend turning her over to a reputable yorkie rescue. ladyjane may be able to direct you to a reputable yorkie rescue in your area. I would hate to see this dog euthanized if she has Chiari because it is treatable. The diagnosis is the most expensive part. The meds are affordable and with treatment she could live her full life expectancy. |

All of these symptoms are same as Chiari and yorkies are prone to this deformity. When I researched Chiari for my own dog what I found is that some dogs are more prone to Brain tumors but yorkies are not so much. Not that they don't ever get them but they are more prone to Chiari then Brain tumors. With Chiari they develope a SubArachnoid cyst in the brain caused by spinal fluid build up. The cyst causes the exact symptoms as a Brain tumor and many vets have not had experience with Chiari, or they have had but never knew it because they diagnosed brain tumor and the owner opted to euthanize without MRI & spinal due to cost . So many people think Chiari is rare but it is not rare , it is just too often misdiagnosed. |

The spinal is important to see if her spinal fluid is going through at a normal speed and to rule out infection. The x-ray will not show a subarachnoid cyst, herniated cerebellum and unless very seriously deformed it will not show the deformity at the base of the skull that is the cause of the herniated cerebellum that slows the spinal fluid and causes the cyst and hydrocephalus in Chiari. WSU is very good and only about a 6 to 7 hr drive from you. My dog is deff worth driving that for and this time of year it's a beautiful drive. The slow spinal fluid often causes false BAT , actually not false just not circulating properly due to the spinal fluid flowing through too slow. The liver test readings will most often return to normal once the dog is on meds for Chiari and the spinal fluid is going through properly. I hope this info has helped. |

How is this baby doing ? |
after she has started to take a prednisolon, she is a normal dog, as used to be, even more active:confused:, but.... her blindness:( makes me worried a lot. Even her eyes's color is changed:(. It is a bad sign as I was told by vet. Tomorrow morning we are going to neurologist for MRI and spinal exam. I will let you know, thanks you :) |
Good luck tomorrow! :) |
