Carlo most likely has Mast Cell Cancer While the results are not back, the Surgeon advised us today to set up an appointment with an Internal Medicine Vet at the Hospital to talk Chemo Options. He said he is 99% sure it is cancer, Mast Cell, and we need to discuss options. This has us pretty bumed out now, especially as Carlo is really starting to recover from the surgery. He did not say this before. He said chances are if we do nothing the cancer will return. We will make an appointment to discuss options and have his staples removed at the same time. I will not be posting for a while, and I do appreciate all of the good wishes. He is much better. We will do what is good for Carlo. |
I'm sorry Steve, I had prayed for better news on Carlo. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Marge, Maxine and Carlo during this difficult time. I'm certain you will do what is best for him. Sending the big guy another great big hug. |
Thinking of all of you. So sorry and big hugs and prayers coming from Texas. |
I am so sorry you got this kind of news, I will keep you and Carlo in my thoughts and prayers. |

I'm so sorry Steve. Hug that gorgeous guy for me and let him know my prayers will not stop. Hugs to you, Marge and Maxine too. |
I am really sad to hear this - I'm so sorry, Steve. Carlo will remain in my thoughts and hopes, as will you and your family. I hope the appt goes well and that there are some positive options for you to consider. Big hugs. |
I'm so sorry to hear this! I will be praying and hoping that once you go to your appointment, things will look much more positive than they do right now. Hugs to you, your wife, and Carlos! |
I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. Just a thought... several people on my raw feeding site seem to have had a lot of success treating or slowing the progression of dogs with a raw diet. Thought it might be worth it to mention it to you as an option for you to research.... |
I will continue to keep Carlo, you, Marge and Maxine in my prayers. I will pray for the doctors to come up with a treatment plan that will bring Carlo more good quality time to spend with his family. Hugs to you all. |
Sending good and healing thoughts your way... |
Well, that stinks. :(:(:( I don't quite understand this surgeon's timing, but then again, there's a whole lot I don't understand. I do get that Carlo is a very lucky guy to have you to look out for his best interest. I'm sure rooting for your very fine, strong pooch. |
Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. I am so sorry for this news. |
I'm so sorry. We've all fallen in love with your Carlo. xoxo |
Steve, you and Marge and Carlo and Maxine continue in my thoughts and prayers. I sincerely hope and pray that there is an effective treatment for Carlo. |
Please keep us posted. Your YT family is behind you with love and support. Keeping Carlo in our thoughts and prayers. |
saying a prayer for Carlo. I hope whatever can or can't be done that you know you've done the best to care for him. |
I'm sorry. I was so hoping he would give you a better outlook than that. I will keep you all in my prayers. I know how much you love the big guy. |
I know how frightening it is to hear the word "cancer" when you are getting a diagnosis. If a dog is going to have cancer, this is about the most curable. I saw a lot of dogs get great results when I was taking one of my dogs with lymphoma for chemo. If Carlo has a grade 1 or possibly a grade 2, and the vet got clean margins, you may not need to do anything else. One of my dogs had a mast cell tumor removed from her side two weeks ago come Thursday. It was grade 2 and the margins were clean. My vet said the average life with this is 70 months. Opal is 15, and she has a couple other health issues, so we aren't considering chemo. As it was, the vet could only use a local to remove the tumor. I hope you hear good news about Carlo. |
Lousy news - I'm so sorry. But if ever there was a big, strong boy with great parents that was going to make it through this just fine, it's Carlo. Stay positive and strong while we keep our prayers going for all of you. |
I'm so sorry Steve. I'll be praying for Carlo and your family. |
Thanks guys. Trying to stay positive, and he is getting stronger every hour. He is now back to eating regularly, drinking water, bathroom, etc. You can tell he wants to go for his daily walks...The Vet did say they got the diseased piece of gut, with good margins on each side. He is afraid at Carlo's age and being a large breed, that it will shortly return without the CHemo. We will make sure he gets the best of everything. He will not be going anywhere without a fight. He is one tough dog. We have a great support group here. You are all the best! Thanks so much, and have a great evening. |

So sorry to hear this news... sending prayers for the Big Dog to the Big Guy ... |
Sorry for your disappointing news, but keep up the fight. Carlo and family are constantly in my prayers, and I still hope for a good outcome for the big guy we have become so close to. |
I'm so sorry to hear this, he looks like such a fighter, and I know you love him dearly. My prayers are with you. |
YT prayers have worked miracles before, so I'm counting on them to do so again. My thoughts are with your family during this difficult time. |
