I said a prayer for you and Carlo....he's a beautiful dog and I can tell in very good hands with you |
Steve, Carlo and family, I've been following your threads about Carlo's surgery and illness and hoping for the best. I don't know if you remember or not but we spoke once about having large dogs and Yorkies at the same time and how great they are together. I just wanted to remind you that Mast Cell tumors can be treated. My Boxer Zeus was 8 when he was diagnosed with Mast Cell, we did one complete Chemo round and surgery which put him in remission for 2 years (we were not able to get clean margins on the surgery). If it is Mast Cell I would definately do the Chemo, Zeus did wonderfully with it. Dogs don't usually have all the horrible side effects that people do with Chemo. Zeus loved going to the vet, he got to spend one day a week getting lots of attention and he was always happy to go there. I know Carlo is 10 and for his breed this is getting up there but I saw first hand how well Zeus tolerated the Chemo and I think Carlo would benefit. I'll keep your family and Carlo in my thoughts and hope and pray for a good outcome. Good luck and thanks for keeping us posted here on YT. Teresa |
Steve, Carlo, you, and your family remain in our thoughts and prayers. Carlo is lucky to have you. He obviously has an abundance of love and strength too see him through this. |
So very sorry to hear this news. I hope and pray that your next appointment will bring more positive news. You and yours are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for letting us know that you will not be on for a time. Big hug((((((((Carlo))))))) and ((((((Steve))))))) (((((Maxine))))))) and ((((Marge)))) |
I'm so sorry. I'll keep sending good thoughts your way. |
Sending prayer's Carlo's way. Glad to read he recouping from his surgery. He's a fighter, like you Steve, he'll be around, I'm sure, for sometime to come. The results sound promising, concentrate on that. |
I am so sorry, I will keep Carlo's and you and your family, in my thoughts and prayers... |
Carlo and your family are in my prayers. |
From what you have shared about Carlo, I can tell he is a fighter, and he is loved very, very much. My bullmastiff had cancer, and we were able to treat him with chemo for two years with a very good quailty of life. Chemo really doesn't seem to effect most dogs the way it does humans. He did have about 8 months of remission (so only monthly rechecks no treatments during that period) between the 6 month protocols too. I don't think you can overestimate the importance of a good diet and supplements too. I'll be thinking of Carlo and your family, and I hope your vet can offer you some wonderful options for Carlo. Please give Carlo a big hug and kiss from me; I have a huge soft spot for the gentle giants. |
Sending very special prayers for Carlo and a few for you guys, too.:) |
These Vets need to get their act together. Carlo's lab results showed that it is NOT Mast Cell, and the Bet now thinks it is Lymphoma.....and ordered another test that will take an additional 5 days. Carlo is just about back to normal. He looks and is acting terific. You would not know that he even had surgery last week outside of the shaved area and large cut. He is eating, sleeping well, chewing his bone, and wagging his tail. He will get the staples removed on Monday...once the next lab test comes back, we will talk to the Oncologist. Hope everyone is having a nice week. We got bombed with rain, and flash flooding is in effect. In our subdivision, the ponds have all over flowed into the streets. |

Carlo has bounced back so fast, it sounds like he is a young dog! Whatever it is, mast cell or lymphoma, vets can treat it and get it into remission. I hope this will be the case for you. My Libby lived just over two years with lymphoma and it was the t-cell, the more aggressive type. You would never have know she was getting chemo. I recommend checking out K9 Immunity and Transfer Factors. Also, fish oil, and the kind where the DHA and EPA (listed on bottle) added together equal at least 600. Also, low carb diets are usually recommended. I've always gotten K9 Immunity from Aloha Medicinals, but couldn't get the website to work right, but this site has it too: How K-9 Immunity Can Help Your Dog I really believed it helped Libby and I've got Opal on it as well. |
