Lots of yorkies do have issues....and I feel your pain on the vet bills. Have had many whopping ones myself.
I think you will need your vet to refer you to the clinic....he really should be happy to do that. Another thing you might want to do first is to ask him if he has ever treated a dog that had this problem...and ask the results of the cast if he did do it. Honestly, if he is not showing any improvement after a month of PT, I would definitely be concerned and want another opinion. I always go to board certified specialists for any ortho problems. It is just that specialists often see more than regular vets do.
Oh,....and about the muscle atrophy. That does come back!! My one foster who had the FHO had severe atrophy./....he was an adult that had lived with that pain for years. His leg came back to normal...took a few months. Also....I have another foster, Rookie, who did not use his leg for six months and had atrophy. His also came back. Just takes them using it to develop that muscle! |
