Can't hold urine after bladder stone surgery
 
My Bitsy had bladder stone surgery on Tuesday. She is back to her old self except for one thing. It seems she can't hold her bladder at all. She pees in the house and even in her crate and bed. I know the new food she is on (Royal Canin SO) is supposed to increase the amount of urine, but is this normal? Could it be she still has the feeling of havin stones in ber bladder??? I am soo worried...TIA

I have never seen this issue come up here...my suggestion is to call the vet and discuss this..you really should anyway even if people have responded.

Her bladder is probably weak from the surgery and this is common after this type of surgery. It can take a few weeks to strengthen up again. However you should call your vet and let him/her know what's going on.

I was just told that my pup needs the same surgery and the Vet said that it would be normal for her to have some accidents right after surgery. Your dog is still healing, do not worry, It's to be expected for now.

Thanks so much for the responses. She is still peeing in the house and her crate. She has one big pee, and then will strain and strain after that trying to squeak out another drop or two. I will be calling the vet in the AM. Hopefully, he will offer some reassurance. I hope your baby does well with the surgery...Bitsy was out of sorts that day, but was back to herself (as far as temperment and personality) the next day!!! Best of Luck!

No, don't crate until she is well again.
 
Sure she will be feeling better soon, but do not crate her. She may need to go more frequently right now, and you are not allowing her too. Better to enclose her in a smaller space with a gate and pads on the floor but no crate. If she has to go, then you must let her go, otherwise, I am afraid it's cruel to do before she is well. Good luck.

Hi again. No..she is not being confined to her crate..only at night or for a few minutes when I can't watch her. I guess I wasn't clear...sorry. Anyway, she is confined in the kitchen, but I take her outside atleast every half hour. She pees alot, but then will walk a step or two and strain for what seems like forever with nothing else coming out. When we come back in she will pee again and again. It's almost like she has no bladder control at all. She has even peed on my lap. I am praying you are correct, and that this is just an after effect of the surgery. She also has been doing this weird stretching thing, almost like a cat after they get up??? Maybe her stitches are feeling weird down there???:confused::confused: The other problem is that when we adopted her 2 months ago, she came to us with what we thought was a UTI which then led us to find out she had stones....so although, she is 3 years old...I don't know for a fact that she was every truely trained. Believe me, although the peeing in the house is a nuisance, my main concern is for her health. I am just so worried that something more is wrong with her. :(

Yes, that is what I am going through right now, (UTI turned out to be stones). I also understand very well what you are saying about your adopted baby. I bought my first yorkie at 3 years old and did not realize that I was actually saving her. They told me she was well trained, but in fact she was not trained at all, but gave she was my best friend for 8 great years of love and companionship. You must check in with your doctor tomorrow. My little Pasha is having exactly the same problem post op. This has been going on for almost 8 weeks. The vet is stumped and I am seeing her tomarrow to see if maybe his prostate is involved. I am sick over this as I'm sure you are. If you find an answer let me know and I will do the same. My vet is ready to send Pasha to a specialist. She has already consulted with 3 other vets. No answer. I am so worried. Like you little one Pasha acts perfectly normal in every other way. I'm more nervous about tomarrows vet appointment than I would be if it was me. I sympathize with you and definitely can relate to this problem. Good luck to both of you and a kiss to your baby.

My Pasha has exactly the same problem. His surgery was 8 weeks ago and he is still straing to pee. Going to the vet tomarrow to check his prostate and yet more ultrasounds and exrays. My vet has consulted with 3 other vets--no answer. If she can't find anything tomarrow she is going to send Pasha to a specialist. I know what you are going through it's tough. If I find anything out, I'll let you know

allergic to bladder stitches
 
Came back from the vet today and come to fimd out. He is allergic to the inner stitches in his bladder. When this happens bacteria forms into a big wad in the bladder called a granuloma. It is HUGE. That is why Pasha continues to straing to pee. Another surgery will be necessary. If Bitsy continues to have his problems,maybe you should ask your vet if this could be the problem. It is very rare but it does happen. I hope my now you don't need this information and Bitsy is doing much better.

Hi I just found out my little guy has to have this surgery...how was it I am really nervous he is only 3 lbs and the anesthesia scares me! He has possible MVD/liver shunt so the stone is due to the liver problems.

I know what you say about being so nervous about your little ones surgery. I felt like I was going into surgery myself, in fact worse. If they want to do a full workout on his overall health---do it. They are tiny and I had pre-op work done. My guy is 5 lbs and his bladder is about the size of a jelly bean so imagine your babies at only 3 lbs. I don't blame you for being scared to death for him I was too, but I'm sure he will be fine. Most yorkies that I've read or heard about do well. My situation with the allergy to the stitches is very rare. I am not that familiar with liver shunt, so I hate to comment on that. As for the stone surgery be prepared for him to be in a lot of pain the first night and it is very hard to take emotionally, but by the next morning you will see a big difference. Oh wow, I am sorry to hear so many of your babies are having to have this surgery and then some are having further problems. I hope all of them are completely recovered soon. Will keep them in my prayers. Please keep us updated about how they're doing.
