Cha Cha | 04-02-2010 07:56 AM | I am only posting this as something else for you to ask your vet about. Last November, I changed my dog's food about the time she came into heat. She was never exposed to any other dogs (she actually had very irregular heat cycles as well), anyways, shortly after her heat cycle was over, she began to itch terribly like you describe, and her tummy was hot. I noticed, she had itched some of her nipples raw. So, after consulting people here, I changed her food back and also scheduled an appointment for her spay. At her spay, my vet stopped the surgery to call and tell me she was pregnant. I told him to look for something else because without a doubt, she was not exposed. Turned out, she had Closed Pyometra, a uterine infection introuduced during heat, but contained to the uterus because heat was over. Now, looking back, I do question all the itching being related to the pyometra rather than the food. They do say closed pyometra is difficult to diagnose, so I am just telling you this as something to ask your vet about as well. Good luck. |
