It could be a bite and i hope so but my gut is no and i would not mess with this one as this one needs to be addressed asap as the sooner you get on neurological things the better as more time can cause more damage. glad she is a mellow one which is rare in a yorkie lolll |

All the stories are of yorkies under a year old, is it common in older dogs? My girl is almost 4 years old. I guess the vet will let me know tomorrow. |

in the link i sent you it states this Causes Breeds at risk for congenital atlantoaxial instability include all toy breeds, especially Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Pekingese, toy poodles, and Yorkshire terriers. These dogs usually show signs at less than one year of age, and symptoms can occur after very mild trauma, such as jumping off furniture, which would be considered normal activity. Any dog, young or old and of any breed, is at risk for atlantoaxial instability after a traumatic event, such as being hit by a car or being an unrestrained passenger in a car accident. they can do xrays but make sure to get digital if you can so they can put on a cd to go to neuro or orthopedic |
read through this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...need-help.html chiari is another neck issue so check this all out - do not want to scare you just want you to be prepared for worse but we are hoping for best |

I took her in this a.m. and the vet moved her neck from side to side and not one cry came out. She felt her neck and said there's nothing to be concerned about that she probably hurt herself. She gave me some pain meds. I don't want to sound rude but its not always good to jump to major conclusions and get people scared the way you did. I know you were trying to help but you basically gave me no other option except she was an AAI dog. |

I am not scared when people try to help me i am thankful that they gave me info to help me with my dog and to gather that info then go to the vet or specialist to get a diagnosis - no one on here is a vet we are just pet owners trying to help when people have a sick dog which i think is a good thing. It is not to scare or torment people but to educate them on the possibilities. Did your vet do xrays? Why did she give pain meds if there was no pain as i would not do pain meds if my dog was not in pain? sorry but sadly vets make mistakes too it has happen with mine many of time. You said your dog does not rough house etc so how would she hurt her neck? Again I am hoping the best for your baby but knowledge is not a bed thing and being prepared for the worst and hoping for best is always the best way to approach things as then you are a prepared pet owner |
I agree. Also agree if no pain, then why the meds :quizzi: Think I'd of insisted on at least x-ray. Better safe than sorry. Please keep us posted. |
