Please help, there's something wrong with Sasha I just got home from work and went to take Sasha out of her crate (she was only in there about 45 minutes, my husband and I work opposite shifts) and normally she's all excited and going crazy when I get home. I had to pull her out of the crate, she was just standing there, nothing. I took her out to potty and she just sat there, didn't want to walk around or anything. This sounds dumb but it's like she's on drugs or something. She doesn't want to eat (although I did get her to take some nutri-cal), walk around, play, or anything. Her eyes are only half open and when she inhales, it's kind of staggered. I did see her walk for a minute when I put her down and she wasn't limping, and I felt all over her for some type of injury (although like I said, she was in her crate, home alone, and she's my only pet) and she didn't wimper at all. Please help me I don't know what to do, I've only had her for 2 weeks and she's never acted like this, she's always licking, spunky, and running around everywhere (she's 6 months). Anyone please respond back with some input. |
She might be coming down with a puppy cold. Just call a vet and see what they say. You did good by giving her NutriCal, make sure she's drinking water atleast. |
Could this be hypoglycemia??? |
Look at her gums . . .if they aren't a nice healthy pink, then yes, she could be having a low blood sugar episode. |
theyre a gray color... i think im gonna take her to the emergency vet |
With a low sugar episode the Nutrical should help pretty quickly. When did she last eat? Has she been coughing at all? I would get her to a vet quickly as she could have a respiratory condition and need medical attention. Do you have a 24 hour vet near by. Please keep us posted. |
Gray is bad. She probably didn't eat well today at all. The nutrical should of helped. I would take her to the vet. Keep us posted |
I'm so scared for you :( I freak out over every little thing. I hope your baby is okay!! Please let us know and keep us updated!! :heart toKandi |
Oh no! I hope your baby is ok!!!! Keep us updated pls! |
I just got back from the vet. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. The tested her blood sugar and it was normal, thank God. They did find a small bump or bite above her eye, they think that might be the cause of what's going on with her. It's really annoying, that after 2 hours and $220.00 they couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong with her. They gave her fluids and benadryl and sent me home with some special food. I just need to watch her overnight, and hopefully she'll be back to normal by the morning or I have to take her back. She seems a little better though, at least she ate. She's now resting comfortably in my lap... Thank you all for your concern and prayers! I'll update on her tomorrow! |
Thank goodness she has a loving Mom, and I think you are the greatest!!! Even though it was pricy, you will sleep better tonight, I doubt you would have rested for worrying about her. I hope she improves and this will be the end of her reaction, How scary this must have been...Keeping her in our doggy prayers tonight. Sharon, Joey and Cabella |
Good to hear. I know you will not get much sleep tonight. She's in our hearts and thoughts tonight. Please update us in the morning! :heart toKandi |
I hope you little one feels completely better soon, I will keep her in my thoughts! |
Hey guys, Sasha is doing a little better today, but still not back to her normal self. She slept in bed with me last night (she's been crated every other night because we're still potty training) but she did really well. I was up through the night with her making sure she was drinking and staying hydrated, and at least she's eating as well. The bump where the injury was has gone down thankfully, I can barely see it now. I'm wondering if she fell and hit her head on something and no one saw, because I find it very hard to believe that she was bitten by something in my back yard like the vet suggested (or should I say guessed at, because he was clueless). I live in Las Vegas, and my back yard consists of dirt and rocks, and it's about the size of a large master bedroom... there's really nothing back there. Plus, my hubby had her on a harness and leash and was with her the whole time watching. Do you guys think this could have been some sort of head trauma instead? Can dogs get a concusion? This is so nerve racking, it truely is like having another child! Thank you all for your support and prayers, and I'll keep posting here to let you guys know how she's doing over the next couple of days! |
Hey :) I'm glad to hear that Sasha is staying hydrated and that she's eating a little better today. I've been reading and apparently dogs can get concussions. Just google it and you'll find several articles on it. Aren't you just angry at the vet for "guessing"? You guys are still in our thoughts :) :heart toKandi |
I don't see how she could have gotten a concussion unless she fell off of something or something actually hit her on her head. If there was a bump, then it very well could have been a bite. Possibly a spider. They are everywhere and we don't always see them. Sometimes lab tests don't show anything, but they need to be done just in case. This is not the fault of the vet. What if he had not done anything and simply guessed? Sounds to me like he did basic tests to be sure it was not something awful .. and the only thing left was an educated guess. Thankfully, it sounds like she is going to be just fine! |

$220 at an emergency clinic really is not all that much! I am guessing it covered the exam fee and the blood work. Sometimes there is no way to know what has happened.....they do basic lab work, as I said, to rule things out. They did not explain this to you? You are right.....the important thing is that she is improving. My guess is it was a bite like they "guessed". One thing I can add though...is that usually if there is a bump they can see a tiny bite mark. |

They actually throw toys at each other? And, hard enough to cause a concussion? I think I would buy them all helmets. :D |
This also could have nothing to do with her head - is she going to the bathroom ok ? Sometimes when they're constipated they act very strangly because they don't feel well.....you know her best so just keep a good eye on her. I would think a concussion would have more symptoms but then - I've only had one ...never seen a dog with one.. Good luck and hope she starts feeling better !! Make sure you keep her hydrated and if you can get her to eat - anything is good at this stage - chicken is always a good start....I give it to my girls (no skin of course and very lean) edited to add - you don't think she got into something and ate it do you ? You may want to check your house for any evidence she may have gotten into something....even under furniture |
Glad she's okay now, whew, scary:eek: I wanted to also point out that of course her blood sugar tested normal, as you had given her NutriCal;) That will put it back up where it's supposed to be and will give the appearance of a normal level, when in fact it could have been dangerously low before you gave her the NutriCal. |

Something similar happened to Bailey last week, I took him to the vet and they did blood work, which along with the visit/exam caused me nearly $500!! I wish I was charged $220 :) I walked out of the vet just as sick with worry and confused as I was before I went in! I thank God Bailey was okay, I'm glad your little one is feeling better too :) |
I was going to suggest possibly a spider bite, but you said the blood work came out normal? My bella, a few summers ago went limp. She had just been outside. Like you we took her right to the emergency vets. Her liver enzymes were elevated, they thought poison or possible liver shunt, but our regular vet the next day took her for the afternoon and the best he could come up with (Since everythign was back to normal) was a spider bite. Since she had something abover her eye, just wondering if that could be it. Elaine |
I'm glad Sasha is feeling better honey! :heart toKandi |
