| gagging and coughing Scooter has been gagging and coughing this evening. It's like he had something in his throat and he can't get it out. He'll fall asleep for about 15 minutes or so then starts gagging an coughing. His mouth is so tiny that I can't see if there is anything caught and of course it's late saturday night and the vet is not open. He's sleeping right now but I'm worried about him.

| Has he had anything to eat or drink after an episode. Just asking because if he can eat I would think you could rule out obstruction. Sorry I offer no solution. Good luck. |

| He just woke up and ate a small piece of chicken so I guess no obstruction. He did eat a treat earlier this evening of dried chicken wrapped around dried apple. Sound awful but he loves them. The chicken was really hard so maybe it scratched his throat. He's sleeping again so I'll just wait and see what happens next. We do worry about every little thing don't we? It's because we love them so very much.

| Lately Kaji has been doing the same thing. I did the same that you did, gave him something he couldn't resist to rule out obstruction, gave him some water to make sure his throat wasn't dry. After a while I figured it out. He gulfs down his daily ration of food early in the morning. By night time his tummy is empty and he would gag and cough and throw up bile. He had always been a casual eater so I would let his daily ration out all day for him to nibble and by night he would still have some left. Now I give him his ration divided in two, one in the morning and one at night. I don't want him to go to bed with an empty tummy anymore. Maybe your baby is doing something similar? I hope my story helps you!

| He's better today. My husband said I worry more about Scooter than I ever did about our son. Probably true Anyway thanks for the posts. The video on kennel cough is hard to watch but very informative. Also my other dog was doing the throwing up of bile and I did start to give her a little treat in the evening so she wouldn't go to bed with an empty tummy. It seemed to be the answer. Thanks....
