So the vet just called. The barium is done i guess, and they found NOTHING! which is good and bad, obviously. He said there was no pooling in the esophagus, so its not megaesophagus:) and he said it went straight thru the stomach with no problems and it seemed to be goin thru the small intestine now with no problems as well. HMMM so no blockage and no megaesophagus, and NO REASON for the vomiting. He said they are going to clean his teeth now, and maybe that will take some pain away or something that will make him want to eat slower and enjoy his food, but i doubt it. He also said there were no traces of worms that he could see in poo, so i guess thats taken care of as well. :) As for the hair falling out, he can see NO skin problems that would cause that either, the only scratching ive seen in around his harness so we can look there to see if it looks like thats where hes losing hair but i dunno cuz its impossible to tell. Hes a furball lol. He also told me to switch to a wet food for a while and see how that goes with the vomiting. Any suggestions?? obviously i have to stay away from the fish salmon type stuff cuz his stomach hated the dry food containing that.

well, vet just called back and said they found some really really bad teeth in the back of his mouth that have to be pulled, so i cant pick him up today:( i hate the idea that hes not gonna be home all nite tonite and i cant pick him up until 4:30 tomorrow after work. im really depressed about leaving him there. however, they did say that these teeth could very well have been causing his really bad breath, and maybe the pain from them couldve caused the gulping, and the vomit. Still not much hope that vomit will stop, but its something at least.

Bad teeth can cause a lot of problems, so it's great he's having those removed. Hopefully this will give him (and you) some relief!

LOL....about Dr House for pets....we could sure use one at times like this!

Sounds a bit familiar to me... But my 5-month-old pup just begun displaying signs of motion sickness... He had no problem going with me to places, but now, suddenly from the day of his first rabbies shot, he vomits every time we drive in the car. This is sooo fustrating that I have, with a broken hearth, decide he can't go with me places anymore :(

Hope someone can give you a good advice and will be attentive to get one myself!

still think it is inflammatory bowel disease as the intestines inflame when food enters the system that is inflammatory thus causing the vomitting.

Hair falling out is a sigh of hypothyroid so i would have a 6 panel thyroid done on next blood draw

could be BUT my maltese had 27 extractions and she never vomitted or gulped food and she had some loose teeth :( just comparing mine to what you are dealing with to see if that helps and i am not sure why they need to keep him over night ? is someone with him all night as my demi came home that night no problem after all those extractions.

yeah my dex use to be able to go places too but now he is home bound as he got older he got car sick more - it stresses him out too much and not worth putting him through that if it stresses him so much plus he is prone to ibd and pancreatitis so not good for him to start vomitting- it stinks as he is so social and would love to take him to meet ups

i guess he had to stay overnight b/c they ran late b/c of the pulling and they closed at five. the vet didnt wanna send him home unless he had come out of the anesthesia completely first. im gonna try the wet food thing now that the teeth are gone and see how that goes. if that doesnt work, i may have to call another vet for a second opinion cuz i have done everything. he has no problems at all when i feed him slowly, so i dont know what it could be now that they've checked everything. vet seems to think he just developed this problem from having to compete for food and eating way too fast for the first part of his life..i dunno, we'll see. im hoping it was the teeth cuz i have noticed sometimes when he eats he stops to bat at his teeth/mouth like theres something caught somewhere.

i did look up IBD and i didnt get much. lol he does have vomiting, which is a sign that it would be in small intestine like you said..but he doesnt vomit when i feed him a little at a time, so how can that be it? It takes me about 10-15 min to feed him 1/8 cup or maybe less time sometimes. i dont have specific amts that i give him at a time really, sometimes more, sometimes less but its always 1/8 cup for breakfast, and 1/8 for dinner. And the vet saw no problems with the small intestine during the barium study either..so i would assume that it would have become inflamed during that too?? i dunno, i may ask him again about it just in case, but i hope its just the teeth thing.

no it will only inflame with an inflammatory food or substance and he was on drugs under anesthesia and the substance is probably not inflammatory. Scoping not barium swallow is how they diagnose ibd - but i never had mine scoped just knew it by symptoms

ibd dogs have to be fed 3-4 small meals a day to help digest food. If they eat fast and too much they vomit the food back up and that is what your dog is doing :( Also blood work can come up totally normal but sometimes amylase and lipase and cpli are elevated which is an indicator. The fact that he is throwing up food is a very big indicator as the food is not getting digested out of the small intestine. The barium swallow only tells you if the intestines are blocked not if they will inflame

honestly i would have done the scoping over the barium because of the fact that he was pooping fine and if blockage they will not poop either :(

alot of yorkies have this :( and the owner gets real frustrated as they vomit food or have diarrhea and nothing shows up on blood work or fecals

i bet this is why he was given up to rescue as the previous owner was so frustrated and could not figure it out :(

yeah usually they will not eat due to bad teeth as my demi would just lay there and not eat as much - did he have loose teeth in his mouth? If absesses in mouth they will not eat it is too painful. I see more not eating when teeth issues - teeth happen fast too as my demi had one loose tooth i freaked and by the time i got urine and blood work prior to anesthesia and a dentist second opinion she had 10 loose teeth i freaked out but i thought petzlife gel was going to work as used for a year to reverse tartar and did not save us. She did not have much tartar at all either which is why i was so surprised

Ask if anyone was with him last night as one thing that upsets me is when they leave the dog there all night and no one is there with him checking on him all night as this happens alot after spay and neuters and then the owner asks if anyone will be there over night and vet says NO - not cool. I brought mine home for spay, neuters and all dentals never had to leave over night - if they are with him 24/7 then ok but i bet no one was with him and hope i am wrong

no idea if anyone was there. hes home now:) I talked to the vet and he said they took out practically all of his teeth in front and one or 2 in back b.c they were so bad and he has gum disease:( but he said the rest of his teeth look good now. he gave me some antibiotics to give him for a while, but he should start feeling better now. He also fed him some wet food and he didnt throw up so i have to get some and try that out. He did say that he doesnt think it is IBD, even of the small intestine, b/c he throws up SO FAST after eating/while eating that the food hadnt had time to get that far into the digestion yet..so if it is inflammation it would prob be of the stomach..but we prob wont do any of that until later if it doesnt stop.
Also he wasnt given up..he was taken from a puppy mill, where he was used as stud:( and they clearly didnt take care of HIM so im glad they took him away. One of the poms they rescued from the same breeder had gum/teeth problems also..so this lady should NOT have been breeding small dogs. my poor baby. they did say if i want we can do the gel thing to keep his teeth clean or protect against bacteria but the best thing we can do is just keep an eye on them and have them checked/cleaned at least once a year..theres nothin we can do about him havin gum disease other than that..i dont care if he has teeth as long as he doesnt have organ failure later in life, cuz ive heard that periodontal disease can cause that!

yeah my demi does fine with 15 teeth and it is much healthier than having gum disease -- i use chlorhexedine wipes from drs foster and smith it keeps bacteria down in mouth

i hope the wet food continues to help :( that is odd as when dd had colitis from metacam and she was all inflamed she vomitted the food right up after eating it immediately so i had to soak it for 30 days before she could keep it down
