Well, Bitsy had her surgery yesterday. There were two jelly bean sized stones. She looks so pathetic with her inner tube on her neck. She cried her self to sleep. Poor thing. She seems much better today. She seems to really like her new food. We went with the Royal Canin SO since we aren't sure what kind of stones they are yet and RCSO is good for all kinds. She is still peeing on my floor though. I guess that is to be expected for awhile....Does anybody know if this is normal following surgery? TIA |

Just got the results of the stone analysis back from the lab and I am worried. It turns out they were 60% ammonium urate and 40 % struvite. Strange thing is...they showed up on xrays. They were a complete combination and did not have one as a core and one as a shell. The vet did not appear to think she has liver shunt, I guess because she is a decent size, she is almost 4 and she is asymptomatic. She is on Royal Canin SO now for life. He said we will just watch it. I don't know...I am very nervous because I know with the info. on here... it sounds like it is liver related?:confused: Do I press the vet for tests or let it go and see how she does on the new food? Thanks in advance for any insight. |
Yes, insist on a bile acids test. She may seem asymptomatic, but with ammonium urate stones, she really is not... Just a simple blood test to make sure everything is okay... Would be a bit surprised that the vet doesn't want to do it. |
