No poop, help! My Chloe was spayed and had a liver biopsy on Tuesday and has yet to poop since... I am starting to get worried, is this normal? I figured if she still doesnt poop today I would call the vet but I am starting to get nervous and figured I would ask here first. She is eating very little... she will only eat a few kibble and then I give her some baby food, so maybe this is part of the problem. She just appears so miserable, she has barely moved out of her crate since I brought her home tuesday night.:( |

Hope Chloe recovers soon, why the liver biopsy, do they suspect Liver shunt? |
Thanks Guys! Nancy, I know about the onions... I only feed sweet potato or banana as those two have no onions... they also dont have much nutritional value  but I only use it when a dog wont eat anything else. They suspect MVD... although the doc said her liver looked really good, so now we just wait for the results. I dont know at this point I am kind of wishing I didnt do the biopsy, the incision is so large and she just seems so miserable, but I guess it is best we know for sure. |

Ellie had the same thing done with the four(ish) inch incision. We still don't know what's wrong with her liver, btw. It's only been two days and she was fasted before surgery, so the no pooping wouldn't be a huge concern to me right now. If you are concerned, call the vet. The very little eating after two days may be an issue. I'd maybe give it a little more time, but she should start feeling better very soon. Is she on pain meds? Are her gums pink? |
I took my Pixie in yesterday because she was biting at her back end all night and crying a little. The vet said she had a large poop in her and that if id didn't come out in 24 hours he would give her an enema. I came home gave her canned pumpkin and about 6 7 hours later she pooped!! So I recommend the pumpkin. When my Cali was spayed 4 years ago she was in heat and they thought she had a bowel obstruction and she needed a liver biopsy. It definately took her a little longer to get back to normal but after about 5 days she was back to normal. Hope Chloe feels better soon. |
It wouldn't hurt to give her some chicken or turkey (meat only, no dinner mixes) baby food (check the label for onions, last time I looked, there were none) as she could use some protein to help her repair and recover. Nutrical supplement may help also. Cottage cheese is also a good source of easily digestible protein, and most like it. (2 tsp to start) Gentle massage may help as it will stimulate blood flow and may make her feel better. Be sure she's in a warm area, maybe offer a spot on a heating pad set on low with a towel doubled over it, and check her often. You can also mix water in with the baby food if she's not drinking enough. |
Here's some information on baby foods and onions, I guess it just effects the meat baby foods. Quote:
