Hurt again Ok Callie is limping again and it appears to be the same injury as before which the vet said was a soft tissue injury and her exercise needed to be limited and it would heel and it did and everything was going great I still wasn't letting her jump off my bed but sometimes she would jump off the couch even with the stairs there. Well today she was acting weird and scared like so I went over to pick her up and she screamed in pain so i softly pushed on different parts of her leg determining it was not her leg but seemed to be the shoulder the problem is she had not been on any furniture to jump off of for maybe an hour or so and it didnt seem like she was hurting after the jump. We called the vet who said to give her the pain meds we have left and see how its doing tomorrow morning. Then about two hours later she had what appeared to be the low blood sugar thing. Could these things some how be related in anyway? And is there any way something could be wrong in her shoulder that wouldnt show up in a regular xray but wasn't caused from jumping like that could just all of a sudden cause her pain? I cant stand to see my baby hurting I would rather take her pain so please any advise or prayers you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this seems jumbled I'm just a mess right now. |
Sorry I don't have any advise but I will say a prayer... |
:animal-paI am sorry I have no advice, but I am sending prayers your way and hope your little one is better really soon. |

Hope she feels better soon. |
I'm not sure about the low-blood sugar thing. I've never heard of a medication reacting to low blood sugar, but if the medication makes her tummy upset then perhaps she is not eating as much? How much does she weigh and how old is she? As for the re-injury, a friend with a mini dachshund went through the same thing with her dog a couple weeks ago. He had a bad sprain in his shoulder, was given pain meds by his vet, and started acting fine. Then a couple days later he was acting like his shoulder really hurt again. The vet said that he must have aggravated the sprain. His owner tried to keep him from doing any running, jumping, wrestling, and playing. A couple days after that, he was fine. I'm not sure what the original problem with your dog was (or was caused it), but I think it's fairly common for the injury to take a while to heal, and it can certainly be aggravated if she is playing/running/working that muscle a lot. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Check in with your vet again and let us know what he says. |
what pain meds? metacam? rimadyl? sometimes pain is your best ally though as if they get the pain meds they think they are fine thus using it more and not resting as much and can re-injure so that is the prob with the pain meds along with side effects. A soft tissue injury can take some time like 2 mos of rest. It took two months when my girl hurt her leg jumping off doggie stairs the wrong way. She had no break either and metacam made her sick so we just rested her and she would have off and on bouts getting up slow at times and lifting at times as it was back leg. She did not scream out in pain though so that is concerning as they are in alot more pain with a break. She only screamed out when injury first occured. |

Have you tried wrapping baked chicken around it? I use the organic chicken from costco - then what you can do if that does not work - give a piece of chick no pill, piece with pill and piece with no pill to trick her |

She is still limping and all the other times she has woken up the next day and the limp is gone but not this time. I'm so worried I do plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow. We just got a lot of snow and the roads are not safe right now plus I really really disliked the ER vet my vet suggests to take them to when she closed. I just wish I could take her pain away its so sad and hurts to see her limping around and hurting. |
