no prob you can get the pill crusher at any drug store give it a shot - you crush it then put in syringe add a little distilled water and shake it up then syringe behind the canine - whatever doseage your vet gave you

You might want to try warm compresses. Ice can be applied in the first 24 hours to reduce inflammation...then, after than, warm compresses.
Just not too hot. And...when you apply either, do not do it directly onto the skin...put a towel in between.
Hope you get good news from the vet tomorrow and only rest is needed for her. :)

I forgot to update this thread sorry. Callie went to the vet yesterday they checked her very well and told us that I need to go see an orthopedic surgeon to determine if it was really 100% a soft tissue injury or something else and that they have better things to do special xrays with. Today she is still limping some and I gave her some metacam this morning but she was still limping and seemed to be hurting late afternoon so crushed the tramadol mix with a little water and used the syringe to give it to her and she spit the liquid back out at me. I wish she could understand it would make her feel better if she took it :( I called the orthopedic surgeon and they gave me an appointment for next tuesday and they told me no food after 10pm monday night which kind of scares me because it sounds like if they think she needs surgery that they will do it then and I donno if I will be ready for that, dont get me wrong I do not want my baby hurting and I want her better but wow that would just be wow. I feel so worried and overwelmed. If something happened to her in surgery I would just die I think.

lol sounds like my dd she will not take liquids -ok ask your vet if there is a compounding pharmacy for the tramadol as they can do it with some chicken flavor in it

the reason they are sending you to orhto which is good by the way is they have digital xray machines and they are much better than the old ones and they can see things. MRI will not show anything really as they are small dogs and MRI are VERY expensive. They will put her xray on a cd for you as well to keep with you so make sure they do that so you have it in case of emergency

they are having you fast her not for surgery but if she does not be still when trying to do xrays they will sedate her to get good xrays so do not stress as i doubt they would do surgery the same day

it is good you will get answers and make sure a board certified orthopedic not just orthopedic as bc means they had to take an exam to be board certified -if you are going to pay extra you might as well have the best :)

oh and soft tissue takes a while to heal so still could be that as think about when you sprain your ankle it takes a while to heal 100% and they are like us in that regard

They probably need her to be NPO in case they need to do a test that would require that she be anesthetized.
I have hidden both Metacam and Tramdol in food. I find that most pups do not take liquid meds well.
I have taken a chunk of cheese and made like a little cup in it to hold the liquid...works fairly well.

Thank you for the information I feel much better knowing that its in case she needs to be sedated not get the surgery that day. Also he is board certified.

I put my dogs pills in peanut butter. Hamburg or cheese should work also.

Could it be Lyme's disease? Maybe the vet misdiagnosed it the first time. I know Brit's dog Jackson was limping and the vet thought at first there was a possibility the leg was broken, but it turns out it was Lyme's disease.

The vet thought maybe it could be lyme and checked her blood monday and she didnt have it.

I am trying to make sure I have everything ready for Tuesday I have her xrays from the ER vet what else do I need to take with me? What are some questions I need to ask the Orthopedic surgeon? I want to be 100% prepared.

xrays, blood work, list of meds and how you are giving, write down any health issues going on as well

I don't know which orth surgeon you wll be taking Callie to but if she does have to have surgery I would highly recommend

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists - Annapolis and Towson MD - Home, Dr. Prostredny. That is who did Hot Rod's lp surgery and he has worked on many of friends dogs. He even has a rescue yorkie himself.

This is just in case Callie would have to have surgery...at least you will know that she is very good hands. :) Good luck.

MY vet recommended Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital but if they say she needs surgery me and my family decided we will get a second opinion so would could try there. Thank you for the info.
