Rosco is sick and I need advice Wednesday my daughter text me at work saying Rosco threw up several times. When I got home he wasn't his peppy self so I took him to the vet. My daughter descibed his vomit to the vet and she felt around his belly and she suspected acid reflux. She gave him a shot to stop the vomit, a shot of pepcid and a shot of steroids and gave me a can of bland food. She said if he vomits any more bring him back Fri.(they are closed on Thurs.) for an exray and bloodwork. He still just wants to sleep and he threw up once just a little Sat. He had a bowel movement today and it looked good. I have noticed him shaking and his ears are cold. I have 2 other yorkies and they weren't cold. His is cold because he don't feel good? I just don't think he is getting better. I plan on taking him back Mon. just want your opinion if it is something else going on with Rosco. Oh and I can't give him boiled chicken and turkey causes mucusy poops. I think he looks skinny, but vet said he's not 7.2 lbs. I am just worried about him:( |
oh boy, I am so sorry to hear this. Do you think that he could of gotten into something? How old is Rosco? I hope he is better soon. I know my Daisy caught a virus from being at pet smart with all the other dogs last winter and she was throwing up and diherrea for almost a week. I was back and forth to the vet and she was slightly dehydrated and they almost hospitalized her. You have other dogs though and they are not sick, so that is why I wonder if he got into something...hmm I hope your Rosco is feeling better. |
He turned 1 New Years Day. My daughter was home all day and she said to her knowledge they didn't get into anything. |
Awww, poor Rosco :( I hope that he is feeling better soon!! |
If you have Nutrical, I'd give him some every couple of hours. And if you have a kennel heating pad to help him stay warm. Take his temperature if it's over 102.5 consider going to an Emergency Vet for treatment. Check the color of his gums, they should be pink. Really pale, whitish or bluish I'd get him to a vet asap. Did you feed him just chicken? Chicken and rice might be better... half chicken with half rice. Ask for some probiotics and you may want him to have a Bile Acid Test if you can see his ribs and spine. |
i am surprised they did not do xray and blood work as that is the first thing they did with mine when he was vomitting like that :( just to be sure and it turned out to be panreatitis. Did he get any high fatty treat before ? |
He had Cheerios. Is that okay to give him? He seems to be a little bit better this morning. His bowel movement looked good. Has vomit any more. The only thing he will eat is SD canned chicken for puppies. That doesn't affect him like real chicken does. I am stilll giving him the prescription of pepid. My other two babies are just fine. Is this related with the IBD? |
How do you take their temp. again and is it exactly what the thermometer says our do you add a degree? |

I hope your lil guy is feeling better! |
I know its not the best, but that is the only stuff he will eat sprinkled with parm. cheese. His bowel movements are fine on it. My others eat canned Blue, Rosco won't eat it because its too mushy and avoids the veg. in it. Their dry food is a mixture of NB premuim and Wellness super mix. He eats it on ocassion and also NB roll ups. Any suggestions on food??? |
He is such a picky eater.:( |
There are so many other better quality dog foods out there. Have you tried the wellness puppy wet? |
Yes I have tried it. He is not crazy about it. I have to sprinkle cheese on everything. Is that hurting him with the cheese? |
I took his temp. it is 100.2 is that good? |
normal dog temp |

I called in a vac. day tomorrow to take him to the vet. I am going to Pet smart and get another food. Any suggestions on canned food that isn't complete mush? Rosco likes it chunky:rolleyes:. He is still shaking today, more so on the back part of body. He's not going to like it, but he needs a bath. Will let you know what the vets says tomorrow. Oh, and I gave him some Nutra Stat. Thanks |
dogs well canned food is chucky chester loves it the sweet potato and lamb, it has chunks and its good food as well no icky stuff in it |
Took Rocso to the vet this morning. They did bloodwork and x-ray. The x-ray showed some small pieces of something in his stomach. The only thing I can think of is last week when we got home from work there was pieces of window blinds on the floor. They must of ate some of them. His blood work results were ALT 170. The vet thinks it was on the high side because she thought the blinds were irrating his belly. AMYL 497 which was low. She said she only worries if it is high. What does that mean being a little low? She gave me some medicine for Rosco called DENOSYL to clean out his liver. Is this medicine safe? |
Poor Rosco, I am so sorry he ate those darn blinds. Well at least you are on the right track. I don't know anything about blood levels but maybe someone that does will post soon big hugs to rosco and I will be praying for him. |

Thanks for the info:) |
Aww poor Rosco. Sorry no advice, but we are sending out lots of positive thoughts and prayers that he will be back to his normal self soon! Huggs |
I also went to Petsmart and got Natures Recipe dry and canned lamb & rice since SD canned isn't good for him. I looked at the Purino plan lamb and rice but it had fish meal in it and I didn't know if it had the stuff in it (not for sure had to spell it:rolleyes:) Exthiquion? |
I hope Debbie can give me some insight on the bloodwork. She knows her stuff. I really appreciate you helping me with Rosco discover chicken irritates his bowel movements. Hope to hear from you soon. |
Rosco seems to be getting back to his old self again:) I am still curious though about his his blood work results on his AMYL being a little on the low side. I have been researching the internet and all I find is sites about it being too high. I will just keep looking. |

denosyl is sam-e and milk thistle is marin - marin cleanses the liver and denosyl rejuvenates it - has your dog had a bile acid test? If not with high alt i recommend this The amylase and lipase are indicators of the pancreas - lipase digests fats and amylase digests starch - i would not be too alarmed with amylase off if lipase is not off as they tend to go hand in hand in diagnosing pancreatitis as a preliminary test then cpli is most accurate hmm the blind issue that is tough was it hard plastic? I am dealing with an issue today as dex has been vomitting alot he vomitted off and on from 5:45 am to 11 am so trying to manage it but he got into the packing peanuts and ate one so hoping this did not cause a blockage but he pooped perfect this morning so just hoping it is an upset stomach which he does not tend to get :( fingers crossed |
