Maggie is sicky I came home and there was poop all over...and then Maggie also threw up like 3 times. She is shivering now and has poop all over her. I want to clean her up but im afraid to make her even colder than she is. I have her wrapped up right now. She did drink water but she won't eat. Right now I am boiling chicken for her. Is there anything else I can give her? I think the food switch upset her tummy. She was on some food the breeder sent with her but she didn't want to eat that so i mixed it with california natural which is what my dogs eat and she ate that but i think it was too quick for me to do that. What should i do now? Should i give her the chicken? She's only a puppy...she's too little.im afraid:( |
Chicken with rice would probably be a better choice. Half chicken. half rice. Bathe her quickly and dry her with a towel and hair dryer. Bad to leave poop on her coat, could spread germs. Check her temperature rectally, if above 102.5 you may want to visit the vet for antibiotics. |
Poor little baby! I just hate when they are sick and so helpless. When Zeus got really sick the vet told me rice and boiled hamburger (the leanest I could buy). Put a couple of towels in your dryer to warm them up and keep her from shivering after her bath. Hope she feels better soon! |
Canned non-spiced pumpkin, boiled chicken and rice that is cooked very well, cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs, are all things they will go for when they don't want to eat. Hope you have nutrical on hand in case she goes long without food. Keep her hydrated too. Sometimes stress of going to a new home can set this off, so can sudden change of diet, and sometimes it is coccidia (very common in pups) that a vet could diagnose from fecal sample & easily treatable. Good luck, and we'll be following this. |
She is straining. She keeps wanting to poop. I tried to take her temp and she kept moving..she is lethargic. Her butt hole is red..and looks swollen. I cleaned her and now she's wrapped up. I hope she eats the chicken. I have her some honey cause i dont have nutrical. Any other suggestions i can do right now? Im worried she's dehydrated |

Do you have corn syrup or pancake syrup? I know it's been mentioned now a few times that honey is NOT a good idea as it can have bacteria in it or something. I think even sugar water would be a better option so I have been told. |
If you're worried about her chilling, throw a couple of clean towels in the dryer for a few minutes to warm them up and wrap her in them. I do this for Soph after baths and she LOVES it. |
She did NOT want the chicken. I'm at a loss. She just keeps trying to poop, she's straining:( Poor baby..she looks weak. I wish i could help her, i wish i could take her sickness and let her be well |
I would not feed her anything tonight if she is vomiting! To test for dehydration, lift her lip and touch her gums. If they are sticky to touch, she is dehydrating and honestly needs to go to a vet asap. A well hydrated pup will have wet gums. |
I am going to take her to the vet tommorrow morning to test for cociddia and other things. She doesnt want to eat so i will keep hydrating her thru out the night |
In post #5 you said she is lethargic. I know she is new, but remind me what her actual age and weight is??? When did she last eat? |
She is 10 weeks...and her actual weight i dont know cause i don't have a scale but it should be about 1 lb 12 oz. She last ate this evening:( She seems lethargic but still manages to wag her tail and follow me to pick her up but not her usual energy |
Poor little girl. Hard to tell what it might be. Hope you are right about it being food change. You know what to watch for in hypoglycemia, I'm sure; I checked a website on it and they say you can use honey, or karo syrup, or even fruit juice, soda or Gatorade if you don't have nutrical. If you boiled the chicken, you can give her broth too. Was it diarrhea, and if so was there any mucus or blood? That usually appears if it's coccidia. Be sure to save samples to take to vet. Good luck. |
I don't know if this helps you any... but when I was switching Kaji to piddle pads recently, he refused to potty (pee or poo) until taken outside. But, after realizing (it took a few days) he wasn't going to be taken outside he finally squatted to poo, but it was rock hard! So, to help him out, I massaged his hinney and it helped. The way I massaged it is quite literrally like I was milking. I put my thumb and index finger on either side of his hinney and softly tried to massage what was stuck out. It worked, he pooped. I hope this helps! |
Bella had an episode with straining when she was just a pup. She would look @me like please help.:( I put her in a warm bath & it did the trick! Hoping little Maggie is feeling better quickly! |

Good luck, hope you can all get some rest. |
I hope your little Maggie is better soon. It sounds like you are doing the right things but always remember... you have good instincts and if you think it is serious - get her to an ER Vet or if nothing else, call them. They may give advice on the phone. I will keep Maggie and yourself in my thoughts and prayers. |
The warm bath sounds like it help. also maybe while bathing her take a wash cloth and kinda rub around down there to help stimulate her. Maybe this will help. Hope she starts feeling better. |
Yes I gave her the warm bath and she seems to like the heat from the blow dryer. I rubbed her belly a little..gave her more water and now she is sleeping. She does get up every few minutes to try and poop..my poor Maggiella:( It's times like these I feel so helpless. I will not sleep tonight..i have school tommorrow morning but i will miss it to take her to the vet. I have to stay up and watch her all night. I also had to give all 4 dogs a bath..Livie, Teddy and London cause they got poop on them somehow when I wasn't here. I keep Livie and Maggie in their gated area but it got open somehow. Today has been the WORST day so far. So much has happened besides this..this is just the tip of the iceberg |
Hi, so sorry you have a hard time, sound's like you are a great mommy and doing all you can!! Sending hug's to you.. !!!! |
Hoping Maggie is doing better this morning. Will check back later to see how the vet visit went. :) |
I hope she is ok. I had an episode with maisie before Xmas. She got hypoglycemic despite giving nutrical and syrup. She got a virus causing diahrea. She was fine at 9am, by 12 noon she was lethargic and by 5 pm she couldn't even lift her head. When they are so small they can go down soa quick. We almost lost her and it scared the life out of me so now it's vets straightaway everytime. |
Hope little Maggs is feeling better this morning, please keep us posted xo |
Checking in on you both this morning. I know it must have been a long night with worry. Hoping Maggie is ok & that today will be a better day for the both of you. Waiting for update & hope all is well @Vet visit. |
Sorry to read you baby is sick. I hope the vet can get to the problem and get her on the road to recovery. Hope little Maggie is better real soon. |
Hoping the vet was able to help poor Maggie and she is feeling better. |
