All the test necessary to diagnose LS. Krystal's vet ran them and said with the medications and the diet, she will get stronger and surgery should be available if it's only one involved, if more then one... diet and medication only.

I'm not a vet... we all know that. I just happen to love my babies and it would kill me if I have to surrender then for research purposes. It's bad enough these little ones have to suffer because of breeding problems and I know that the more they can learn the better off the breed.

By the way, I assisted for a Thoracic/Vascular surgeon that handled only trauma case. I've seen the worst of the worst.

hmmmm you act like you know all....NOW you say you do not.

What is the name of the vet? One of us can call and ask the name of these tests he ran. I would love to hear what you call expensive. I don't see how a vet could have done a scintigraphy.....and I doubt he did. My thoughts are he ran some blood work and probably no more than 100 dollars.
Who cares about your job? We are not here to compare degrees and professions! Bottom line, you are not a vet; and even though you say you have had so many yorkies and dealt with so many specialists, the things you say to us don't make sense. No disrespect here...but I think this is out of your range of expertise.
You simply got caught up trying to be nice...you can be nice while helping this young lady make a SENSIBLE choice that will help Melody.

I appreciate that Krystal has taken pictures but pictures are like PHONE CALLS

USELESS!!!

Is anyone one else wondering why we have not heard anything on this puppy , like:
Melody is doing so badly she went to a specialist to have a XYZ test done, NO MENTION OF THAT UNTIL WE HERE THE WORDS

EXPENSIVE... MEANING GIVE ME MONEY $$$$

I am honestly question the validity of this entire thread, NO PHONE CALLS have been made where any one other then Kathleen and the OP can verify if they are true.
EVERY single time someone comes on this board UT is HIGLY recommended yet KATHLEEN has determined the puppy should go elsewhere?? WHY

NO ONE CAN verify that any other person other then Kathleen has spoken to the Krystals VET. WHY

As far as Im concerned the pictures of those puppies look no different then a picture of a puppy who is healthy this does NOT PROVE ANYTHING!!

So now poor little MELODY has an uneducated VET and a SPECIALIST who diagsnoses her with out even seeing her , GET A NEW SPECAILIST!!!

Kathleen, YOU ARE NOT A DR , EACH and every shunt DOG needs to be seen IF THAT were not the case DR TOBIAS would NOT have spent YEARS doing a STUDY, she did not use ONE DOG and say HEY thats the way it is...

SO HOW DO YOU KNOW , WHEN IT TOOK A PROFESSIONAL DR, FROM A UNIVERSITY YEARS OF RESEARSH AND STUDING? THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE, AND ID LOVE TO KNOW THE PROFESSIONAL SPECIALIST THAT ADVISED YOU TO LEAVE A LIVER SHUNT PUPPY WITH A PERSON WHO HAS NO MONEY TO CARE OF IT AND GAVE YOU MEDICAL ADVISE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THIS PUPPY THAT DOES NOT EVEN BELONG TO YOU!! IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO MELODY TONIGHT BASED ON THE ADIVISE HE HAS GIVEN YOU , IT IS HIS FAULT!! AND YOURS!!!

What test can a VET run. NONE, except blood test and BAT that cost under 100 dollars. Your last paragraph scares the heck out of me. RESEARCH PURPOSES! Where did you get that from!

So then don't surrender her for research purposes! WHAT ABOUT A REPUTABLE RESCUE???? They have the funds and the knowledge to handle this. Plain and simple right?

Of course it will be hard to surrender Melody but if she loves her as much as she says she does then she would want to help her in any way possible correct?

Everyone reading this can come to one obvious conclusion. Krystal can't afford this. This is not going to change. Give that poor helpless animal to someone who can. For god sakes people this is abuse! I know you don't mean to hurt Melody but YOU ARE KILLING HER by not getting her to where she needs to be!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's everbody just STOP for a minute!!

I"m going to take 5 minutes just to calm down before I post again.

I'm not trying to bash any breeder. It's a breeding problems that's causing a lot of the problems in very small animals.

What's more important at this time.... Melody or you trying to get this breeder. My first choice would be Melody....

I haven't seen any rescue that will pay for surgery and let the owner make payments. I have seen Vets and Speciality Hospitals have that payment plans options, or they promote Care Credit.

But the problem is, Melody's owners doesn't have any funds to pay anyone back, rescue or vet, so who looses???? Poor Melody.

As far as testing goes, most Vet do have the capabilities to do the simple Bile Acid Test. They can do blood work too, and that will show it anything else is odd. Some Vets do have an Ultra Sound machine, but a U/S is only about 60% accurate in seeing a shunt, and the person read the U/S has to be extremely skilled in looking and seeing shunts, and even then, it's only 60% accurate. A Protein C test can be done too, but has to get sent out. And that's about all that can be done at a General Vet, and to be honest, NONE of those test can say YES there is a Shunt...That's where a Specialist come into play.

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself a bit about rescue. Go to:

Yorkie Haven Rescue Adoption Fees

THEN come back here and spout this STUFF to me. You are making judgements about something you have ZERO knowledge about.

And the owners make payments? That is almost hilarious. This girl could not get $30 together for SIX months. This is very common...people get sick pups from breeders and they cannot afford it. Nothing shameful about it....right now this is getting shameful because you are advising her against the best thing for Melody...and that IS rescue imo and actually the opinion of many.

That is exactly why we should know who the breeder is. I certainly don't want to see someone else get a puppy from this breeder.

Are you the breeder? Why the need to protect?

Rescues are not a lending institution, for heavens sake!

Are you honestly suggesting that rescues make a profit on their small adoption fees?

I really think you need to educate yourself more on what a rescue group is and isn't. Giving Krystal uniformed advice is making this situation much, much worse.

I'm sure if you were in her shoes, you would be doing the same thing.
All of us have good and bad times in our lives and maybe it's she's just having a bad time now.
Would you be willing to give up one of your children because you couldn't afford them. That's right.. we have Med-cal to help with that. These poor little furbies only have us and we try and do the best we can.
