Lucy is acting very strangely! Hi all, It's snowing to beat the band here and I'm very worried about my 5 month old puppy tonight. We've never had any problems at all - but it seems like she cannot get comfortable. She was hiding out in my son's closet on a blanket which is, in itself, unusual. She would lay there; then jump around in a frenzy; then lay back down; then move around like she was trying to get comfortable. If I put her on the floor, she just runs with her tail tucked down - finds a spot; lays down; then starts the spastic moving around to get comfortable. She cannot keep still but she does not want to walk or play. I have been giving her a little bit of wet food with her dry food for the past 3 days . . . could this be it? Could she be having like a seizure? I'm really scared and don't know what to do. My vet office is closed and there is no emergency vet close by. The roads are terrible. Should I risk the roads and call an emergency vet? I'm scared to drive in this . . but I don't know what to do? She hasn't pooped her normal 3-4 times today .. . it there something I can give her in case she's constipated? Oh gosh. I've never dealt with anything like this. |
It sounds like her belly is upset. Can you here gas in her belly? NO diareha or throwing up??? if you touch her belly does she groan? My dog had pancreatitis and she behaved just like that, Im not sure if a puppy can get that...I hope she is better soon..:( |
Can you just call the ER vet and just explain the situation to them? They can tell you if you need to bring her in. :) |
Well, I called the emergeny Vet office in the closest town and was told that it sounded like gas, too. They said to keep her quiet tonight and comfortable; no more food. If she is still acting this way tomorrow - then I will call her Vet first thing. I knew I shouldn't have given her that canned Alpo! My neighbors dog died and she brought me all this canned food - that my dogs NEVER get. The dogs have been so bored and snowed in for days . . so I gave them a treat for the past couple of nights by putting just a TAD on top of their kibble. And I mean just 3-4 bites for her. But she really gobbled it down for dinner. So I am hoping this is what it is and I can keep her comfortable until morning. She is sleeping now. Please keep your fingers crossed. I am calmer now but I was really scared that she was having a seizure or something. Thanks for responding. I'll post tomorrow if everything is ok. |
I think she'll be fine and hopefully you can get some rest. ;) I'm glad you feel a little more comfortable. |
I hope someone comes along to tell you a at home cure if she gets bad through the night.. I do believe you can wipe thier tongue with pepto or pepcid but I dont know how much. Wait for someone to come along and let you know , but this did work for my puppy when she had bad gas! |
it very well could be the Alpo...that is not a high quality food and giving it to a dog, esp a pup, that isn't used to it could cause a stomach upset....it will probably pass but I would avoid different foods they aren't used to...hope he gets better!!!!! |
This is why I love YT. Who else can you turn to at 11:30 on a cold snowy night when everyone else is in bed? And your family doesn't know a thing about dogs anyway! You guys are great! |
we all understand because we have been there at some time or another....they are like kids...every little sneeze or whimper and we get all flustered :p |
I will bet it was the Alpo! She might end up with diarrhea .. they have such sensitive little tummies. Wishing you a quiet night. I think she will be feeling better by morning! |
also check and make sure she doesn't have some poo matted around her tush. I try to keep Soph's hair trimmed in that area but it grows and a few times she gets the poopy butt and she acts like your puppy is acting, especially the tail tucked under part. |

Lucy Update Lucy slept on an off all night; still waking a lot with the spastic movements. Now she whines a little bit too. My Westie doesn't know what to think; he tries to play with her but she is not playing. My Vet isn't open until 8:30. Aaah! I've already called. Surely they will get me right in. Fingers crossed. |
I hope she is ok....keep us posted! |
I'm sending prayers that Lucy is ok. Please let us know what the vet says. |
