i definitely question when i see something that does not sound right like the lymphangastasia with no blood work to support it. You are correct i do not trust many vets as have been let down alot and why i deal with specialists and pay more money for vet care as they seem to know more. I think many pet owners are very uneducated I know i was and they come here looking for help like i did years ago and yahoogroups and why i try to help them like you do from experiences i have had with my two yorkies. I think if people do not share that have these experiences then that is sad as it may help others. The one thing I have learned is many pet owners know more than some vets as they spend the time researching, joining groups with other pet owners with the same health issues that see specialists all over the world and they are truly passionate about the disease as they want to help their animal such I have done. Just like a mother of a child with cancer will do everything to find a cure and to help their child. I feel sorry for pet owners as i have been there frustrated in tears myself before i started on this journey when my dog almost died of pancreatitis when a vet gave my dog a food that made him more sick and had to be hospitalized and a plasma transfusion or he would have died. After thousands of dollars i think i have learned a few things. I could sit back and not say anything and let people figure it out for themselves but i try to help and offer things to consult with their vet about and if you reread my posts it was to check with vet about these things.

Maybe i am no wording it properly but my intentions are when i see something that does not add up I will say something so they can try to ask the right questions as most times people going through this do not know what to ask as they are emotionally involved and cannot think straight at times like these.

Trust me i do not know alot about everything but the stuff i post about like pancreatitis, allergies, ibd, mvd and liver shunt those areas I have done a ton of education on it and experienced it first hand. If i do not know about it I know others who are and direct them to them as i am on vet groups as well as many other yorkie groups and yahoo groups and sadly no one referred me to a pancreatitis yahoogroup when dex was so sick and that would have helped me alot but now I know about all these and refer others who are struggling.

The only thing we can do here is bring our knowledge, experience and try to help one another and the rest is up to the pet owner to decide what is best with their individual vet or specialist but there is nothing wrong with offering information to consult with them about such as probiotics or coconut oil heck someone on here is selling it and is a vendor here so obviously it is not some type of voo doo medicine lollll

ok so i must be missing something where did i state this? I stated to ask your vet about these two things i believe so have i missed something as i am at work and was trying to help

I dont think he diagnosed it as lymphangastasia....he thought it was that but when it did not respond properly he sent her to a specialist. Yes, he used steroids, but he needed to get that inflammation down so that the poor thing did not lose a lot of weight from the diarrhea. I think ANY vet would have done the same thing. This was not a common thing. This was actually diagnosed fairly quickly once she got to that vet...he followed the right path imo.


Sharing one's experiences in efforts to help someone when asked is one thing, but recommending treatment over a vet is another.

You've had some situations with vets that you've dealt with......Most of us have. But, as I stated early on in Lissette's quest to get to the bottom of Lola's problem, I sent her to one of the best vets in Dallas. Is he perfect, no, but, I would place any one of my dogs in his care, and I have, because I know he doesn't just treat willy nilly and never makes you feel like an idiot. He makes you a partner in the treatment of your dog and makes sure you understand everything completely He does know yorkies, inside and out.

confused this thread states in the first post the vet is treating for lymphangastasia yet there was no diagnosis for this with this dog? Why was it treated for this with no low protein, low calcium and low cholesterol as that is what happens to blood work with lymphangastasia

i agree this was very odd as never heard of this on all 64 dog groups i am on so it is rare and they did diagnose quickly which is impressive.

I am just confused as to where i stated not to do what vet prescribed as i feel is being stated and why is it wrong to ask the vet about probiotics and coconut oil as those are being used quite a bit now a days

Early on when Lissette explained the steps the vet was taking...the treatment and the possibility of a biopsy if the treatment didn't work....Your words were I wouldn't let him.

Debbie, it all started in June or July when my other vet did not help and moved. I had a local vet about one mile away and she did the blood work but thats when I started seeing my present vet. He looked at everything and wanted to rule out the food. So he treated her for Lyphant, and after a month a a half of trying different foods for weeks at a time she started looking great, so we reduced the Pred and Metro and thats when it all started up again. The Bloody stools. He then said she needs to be seen by a specialist and I want her to have a Biopsy after all the nesse. test are run. We didnt even get to run all the test because after the TLI TEST the next day we had the Sonogram and that told the Whole story. This is not easily diagnosed. For one thing how many dogs have you heard of getting a fungus like this.Out of all the dogs that live on the street why mine. I have 6 and only one get this. Her Immune system must be weaker. Thats the whole story in a nut shell. I dont eat meat and try not to buy leather products, and live in health food stores but I know when medicine is needed. I love the Coconut oil and milk. But she needs to get rid of this fungus that is killing her then after that I will help build her Immune system back up. Thanks for all your concern, I know you try and have been thru so much with your babies.

The only time I've heard of this is through OBGYNs, preggo moms aren't suppose to change litter boxes because of the possibility of their carrying it.

so was the sonogram the scoping for biopsy?

That is something you would have to ask the vet.......

thanks i agree needs to get rid of this for sure just like my dd with her staph i had to bite the bullet and do the clindamyacin even though i am afraid of hives and vomitting I had to do it but i also know i need to keep her on those two things now as she had no issues for 2 years while on them as she has a poor immune system. Dogs with poor immune systems are prone to getting bizarre things that no other dogs get it is sad but this breed tends to have alot of immune issues and i think it is due to the inbreeding that goes on with them as just like humans if we inbred them they would be jacked up too - very sad as it is not fair to these dogs nor the owners that go through it because of poor breeding. Then most end up in rescue because of it as owners cannot afford it or they put the dog down.

Gotta tell ya, I have had nothing but the best, Who would have ever guessed a Fungus. We had to rule out all the other Yorkie GI problems. If nothing showed up in the Sono then we had it schedule for a biopsy. For the first 30 min during the Sono, nothing showed until he made his way to the colon and lymphs in that area. It was still inconclusive until we got the results back from the Cytology . And guess what, while Lola was under and they where giving her a Sono they where also on the phone with my vet and specialist three way conversation. I was there. These doctors would not stop until I had an answer.
