Zoey is still on the vet prescribed probiotics and we are awaiting the human grade one you recommend. I thought I would start her after we finish this probiotic - what is your feeling? |

Lady's HGE episodes came out of the blue with no warning. She was put on Cephalexin as part of her treatment. Scariest thing I ever went through with her. The first two times her packed volume was on the low range for HGE so subq fluids and antibiotics were all she needed. The third (and last) time her packed volume was 90. She was in the hospital for two days. I nearly lost her. HGE is one disease you cannot take a "wait & see" attitude. Since Yorkies are prone to HGE, everyone needs to be aware of the symptoms. Immediate supportive care can mean the difference between life and death. |

Well, I would not say that Zoey is 100% yet but I am seeing improvement daily. She is done with her antibiotic and still has a few days of the prescribed probiotic and then I will begin the human grade one. Thank you to all who gave experienced knowledge, information, and support!! I will not be posting in this thread further as I deem her no longer 'sick'. Of course, if this would change - I will let you know. Thanks Again!! Huggs |

Dogs have very different digestive systems than we do. I would stick with the probiotic your vet prescribed or another high quality probiotic formulated for dogs. Animal Essentials is a good one. Animal Essentials Product Information |

The fact that I decided to try a human grade product is that it was recommended first of all, second - I worry about ANY potentially non human grade product for my pets 'long term', and my limited research on this supports it as well. You say that their digestive system is different than ours.... is there a difference in ingredients besides the potential 'grade'? I am learning and am open to others experiences. Thanks! |

Probioplus Dds by U.A.S.Laboratories - UA-1013 - at The Vitamin Shoppe There are several other excellent probiotics for dogs that others here use. I think Wylie's Mom has recommended another brand in the past. |

also digestive enzymes are to be taken with food to help digest the food but to properly do probiotics you should give to dog 20-30 min prior to food so it coats the digestive tract protecting it and creating a healthy digestive tract prior to introducing food. |
