| We just went through kennel cough. It can take 3 weeks for them to get over it. The antibiotic is only to perevent pneumonia. It does nothing for the cough. It has been very bad this year. The good news is that it does not seem to bother the dog, they still eat and play as usual. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear this. When I got Cali as a puppy she had kennel cough and she gave it to my then 8 year old pom. It took 3 months to clear up completely, but they were fine just coughed mostly at night and morning. Like JeanieK said the antibiotics are given to prevent pneumonia. I found that bringing them into a steamy bathroom helped them too. Your baby should be fine just keep an eye on it and if he seems worse take him in to check his lungs.

| Desperate mother Iam starting to get desperate The cough pills seem to be working. Ike has not cough a lot this evening - thank good. However, his nose is running a little bit. It is not just that watery clear substance, it is just like we have a cold and we have runny nose (a more consistent substance). Is it normal? Can it be a sign that his lungs are being affected? |

| Yep... he is on antibiotics..... i do not think he is getting worse... just his runny nose with a more substantiak mucus is bothering me. Is it part of the kennel cough? we went to the vet on sat. and she said his lungs were clear. i am so worried |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | The antibiotics should prevent a bacterial infection from occurring, but the virus just has to run it's course. What I did with Cali was have her checked out after a couple weeks on the medicine just for my peace of mind. I know it is hard not to worry, but Ike should be fine.

| Guys, Just want to let you know that Ike is a lot better. He cough is almost gone . He is more playful than ever...... When do you think he will be able to be around other dogs? We were planning on having Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmother's, but she has a puppy and I do not want him to get kennel cough? |

| I would keep him away from all dogs or anywhere that dogs inhabit until your vet gives you the ok. Bordatella is an airborne disease and is highly contagious! That is how it spreads so rapidly. Please keep him in until you're given the ok!!

| I'm glad to hear your baby is doing better. I am going through the same thing. Both of my yorkies have it. The cough sounds really bad. I go back to the vet in 3days to have them rechecked. They have been on clavamox for a week and a half. One seems to be better the other still has a bad cough. Other than that they seem fine. I am praying everything turns out ok. |
