I hope the OP comes back soon to update us. |
Hi all thank you so so much for all your thoughts and prayers. I am sorry it is taking me so long to let you no how Harley is. Well, when the vet opened this morning I was sitting there waiting. They let me come in and hold her at which time they told me the eye was to badly damaged to be saved and was way to swollen to go back in the socket so they stiched the eye closed. He also said that a dog like Candy has no place in a home with her getting more and more aggressive and he felt she needed to be euthunized. So, they gave me some pain medicine and antibiotics for Harley and I brought her home. My husband and I discussed our options and felt it was best to follow the vets advise and put Candy down. So, my husband took her up to the vet. We called the carpet cleaners and explained the situation and they came right out to clean up all the blood. I than called Harley's groomer and she came right over to bath her up so she can now rest and heal and learn to adjust to only having one eye. She has been eating really good and is laying on the sofa enjoying all her visitors and attention. We will be crying for a while for the loss of our Candy. She was a rescue that was a mess when she came into our lives and I spent a lot of time working and loving her to gain my trust. I do animal rescue and I have goats that I tend to. It was Candy and my time together and her favorite time of the day. It always made me feel better knowing she was there to let me no if someone was coming. |
Oh I am so sorry about Candy. That is a super hard situation. I would have chosen the same way. I am glad that Harley is ok, I know several pugs that only have one eye, as a matter of fact my sil had one that lost BOTH eyes. Once you get used to it you won't even notice it, and neither will she. Keep us updated on her recovery. |
So sorry that you even had to make that decision:( I'm glad Harley is doing better and seems to be adjusting to life with his one eye...I bet Harley loves all the attention though:D |
I am so sorry you had to make such a tough decision and that your baby lost her eye. My heart goes out to you. |
I am so sorry about Candy. What a double tragedy for your family. |
Jersey Boy sends hugs and kisses to Harley. So sorry about Candy. |
prosthetics What a terrible dilemma. I'm so sorry. My maltipoo was attacked and we worried over his eye for several months and were very fortunate that it was saved, but it led me to do some research and I found that prosthetics are very reasonable. If the muscles around the eye socket are still in good shape a prosthetic eye can be colored to match the other eye and asthetically looks almost like the real thing. Very hard to tell the difference. I would think it would have to be done relatively quickly before the muscles atrophy. Just a thought... |
OMGosh what a traumatic couple of days for you. I am so sorry about Candy, I know that must have been a very hard decision. I am sorry about Harley but very glad to hear that she is doing better today. Thank you for the update on her condition. |

I am so sorry for all you have been through. RIP Candy. Im sorry they couldnt save Harleys eye. I cant believe your vet told you to do that, I would think rehoming her as an only dog would of been best. I mean taking in rescues I see dogs starting fights over food all the time. |
Awwwww! Harley and I thank you for all your great wishes and thoughts. We will have to talk to another vet other than the one that did her surgery. This vet never even discussed that option with us and it never crossed our minds that we would come back in the morning to the eye being gone. I would have thought they would consulted with us before they removed the eye and sewed it shut. But, the main thing is my baby is home and safe now. She is not letting me out of her sight thats for sure. Poor baby! |
I hope you have better days ahead, thinking of you |
I am so sorry for the pain that you are going through at this time over the loss of Candy and poor Harley, I pray that your little one has a speedy recovery! |
