Sorry, I'm just now seeing this. I had EXACTLY the same thing happen when my poodle was about a year old. He was actually taking something away from my grandparents' German Shepherd though. The GS let this go on for a little while - back and forth - but then finally snapped at Dax (my poodle). He barely punctured a spot right above Daxton's eye and the eye was hanging out. Freaked us out to no end so I know exactly how you're feeling. Rushed him to our regular vet and he put the eye back in and said it was just a matter of time before we'd know if there was nerve damage. Well a week or so later it could be seen that the eye was damaged and not going to "live". At that time we took him to the Texas A&M vet hospital and he was given a prosthetic eye. It was either that or sew it shut and I just couldn't do that to him at such a young age. What they did was (short version) take out the eyeball, scoop out the insides of it and then fill the "casing" with a prosthetic material. Then it was put back in. By the time the surgery was done, the eye had shrunk just a tiny bit but that wasn't all that noticeable afterwards. The color of the eye did change though. It was grey from then on - looked like he had a cataract on that eye. I tell you all this so you know what your options are. Dax had his eye examined once since the surgery when he was about 8 or 9 years old just to check up on it but he lived to be a ripe old 16 years old and being blind in one eye never did bother him. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I'll tell you whatever I can remember if it will help you. Good luck! I'll be thinking of ya'll!! |
I am so sorry. I am praying your baby has a full recovery. |

How is little Harley today? How are you? That sounds traumatic :( I am so sorry. |
Sorry to hear bout Harley. I hope her eye can be saved. You just never know what Candy may have been thinking. I hope Harley is back home soon and makes a full recovery. |
Oh my! I\'m so sorry! I hope the vet is able to save his eye! |
I am so sorry! I have actually heard this same story too many times, where a larger dog snaps at a toy breed dog over a food bowl or treat. In just about every case, it has been the smaller dog that started it, but they are no match for a larger dog. I hope they can save her eye. |
I\'m so sorry this happened our prayers are with you. |
