If your baby is in that much pain they need to give her somethign for the pain.. IT takes time for these steroids to work. Up to 48 hours. You need to get her someplace fast. The girls are all looking up docs for you.. Tell the doc you need to take her now You do not want to waist anymore time.. This is your baby you have to be her voice. She can not speak for herself.. You need to push him. If it is AAI he has already told you once this was liver shunts.. I was told the same thing with babybear when I brought him into the doc office the day he died on my living room floor. He was revived thanks to his daddy. And I was told he had livershunts. This is wrong. AAI shows a lot of the same signs of Liver shunts..That is what makes these vets confused. If they have never treated a AAI pup then they don't know what to look for.. I for one have lived with a AAI pup and you are telling all the signs I have seen myself.. Please tell that doc or the doc on call that you need a referral ASAP.. The learning hospitals are usually also ERs they will take you right in. Please keep us updated.. |
Hello :) I know you must be scared worried and in a confused state of mind of why all of a sudden this is happening to your baby that you love. I wanted to share with you that my BLEU BOY BARBER that you see in my avatar is living proof of the AAI/AAS surgery. I was looking at your pictures and one picture imparticular totally reminded me of my BABY. Your yorkie has her neck positioned the same way BLEU BOY has his positioned I see it in your photo. I know your baby must be in a lot of pain. Im so sorry I truly am I am sorry if you have answered all these questions in previous post but can you post them again? 1. How old is your yorkie? 2. When was she taken from her mother? 3. What type of fall did she have? 4. When did she fall? 5. When did you notice the first symptom? 6. What is her appetite like? 7. Where does she sleep at night? 8. How many hours is she left alone during the day? 9. If the doctor said she needed surgery are you financially prepared for this? 10. What is your next plan of action? Sorry I have so many questions I am trying to understand your situation. There is one thing you said that also caught my attention and that is YOUR YORKIE was a runt ... BLEU BOY was the runt too... If this is indeed AAI/ AAS it may not be from the fall and it may be from the fall it could be a birth congenital defect? 11. How many pups were in the litter? 12. Did the mom have any complications? 13. Are the rest of the pups ok ? Thank you again for answering these for me it will truly help me understand your situation. I am available by email and I will give you my home and cell number if you ask me for it. God Bless You I am praying for you and your baby! I am so sorry you are dealing with this and I pray there is a answer soon and she is well on to recovery so you can enjoy her for many years to come. Also My BABE 4 Me her name is Val I know her personally and I know her BABY BEAR she has a great deal of knowledge on this subject as well. By the way I am Vicki and I have 3 yorkies and 1 chiuaua. 1. How old is your yorkie? she is 10months old will be a year jan 15, 2010 2. When was she taken from her mother? she was with her mom until may 2009 they lived in the same house. her mom weaned her at the normal time. but her mom was my roommates dog. 3. What type of fall did she have? i just found out from my roommate that roriee had another fall that i didnt know about when i was at work. she rolled down the same stairs but this time she got right back up and didnt even yelp. this happened about a month ago. i just found out this information now. 4. When did she fall? first time was a month ago.. she got right back up. monday night her legs quit working and she rolled down the last 2 steps on the front porch. this time she did yelp like crazy. i ran down and picked her up.. after i comforted her and put her down to eat she seemed wobbly but she walked and even ate a bit.. then she started getting worse.. i picked her up and she screamed bloody murder..,my mistake is not taking her in right then, but she was walking. 5. When did you notice the first symptom? she has been acting strangely for over a week now.. she would yelp for no reason but when i would pick her up to cuddle she would be fine 6. What is her appetite like? eats fine.. she loves her soft food in the evenings and would eat her hard food on and off all day 7. Where does she sleep at night? she sleeps with me always.. on my cheek/neck area 8. How many hours is she left alone during the day? she is only left for 5 hours a day. she is caged when i go to work.. never ever let her roam the house by herself without me 9. If the doctor said she needed surgery are you financially prepared for this? no but i would move heaven and earth to find a way to pay for it. i have already applied for grants and help via the links on the other area of this site 10. What is your next plan of action? getting up early tomorrow and getting her to a specialist. but not sure where to go. |
11. How many pups were in the litter? there were 5 pups.. 4 girls and 1 boy 12. Did the mom have any complications? no complications at all. my roommate was there during the delivery and they were fine 13. Are the rest of the pups ok ? all the pups seems to be fine. not sure if my ex roommate is in touch with all the people that took the pups. roriee was the runt. but she was the one that was the most pushy and bossy :) |
i never let roriee jump off the bed. too high for her. she could jump up on my lap when i was sitting in my chair in the living room. but never ever let her jump off high places. i carried her alot. she always shakes after she gets full. for at least 10-15 minutes. but then she is fine.' she pee's alot. small amounts, bright yellow. |
Im on the phone with Randi and we need to find her a UNIVERSITY in Georgia close to Atlanta if at all possible Anyone can help .. This is urgent! Thank you |
Vicki here is one and it has a ER also.. teaching hospital.. The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine I am still looking hon |
We are off the phone now and she is calling them and also said she is taking her in the morning as soon as she picks her up.. This lady is so sweet and so nice and is willing to do whatever it takes to save her baby. A very genuine lady with even some hardships herself. This is her child she has no children she is in her early 60s precious as can be. Very concerned and I might add distraught .. Please keep her in your prayers and please offer her words of encouragement as often as you can. She wants to do everything she can for her baby. |
ok i spoke to a very nice doctor from the university who told me to get my doctor to call him in the morning for a referrel asap. he said it sounds to him like aai or a very bad pinched nerve that is causing all this for her.. he is willing to take her and help any way he can and he understands that i am not in the best financial state but that i will do whatever i can to get her well. so i am going to sleep if i can.. but i have to be calm and make sure i do not overreact in a bad way to the vet as the university vet said he is sure my vet has done all things correct so far.. except for the fact he did not take a xray right away.. hopefuly tomorow she is better.. thank you soo much as i was totally freaking out.. ps.. i am 53 :) but i am partically disabled myself due to arthritis.. i love my baby.. i have no children.. she is my daughter. |
thanks so much val and vickie :) so glad you posted i was so hoping you would get my pm and help her :) |

no referral required in emergency situations We would not require a referral in the following instances: 1.Clients that wish to see our Local General Medicine Practice, live within a 30-mile radius of the Teaching Hospital, AND have not recently taken their pet to another veterinarian in the local area, may call 542-2895 during normal business hours to set up an appointment (after hours emergencies may call 542-3221). 2.For after hours emergency situations, many Athens area veterinarians offer the Veterinary Teaching Hospital as an emergency hospital. If this is the case, we would not require a referral prior to presentation, but you should inform the emergency veterinarian at our facility so we can keep your regular veterinarian updated on your pet's condition. |

ok looks like college is best as just checked your area for neurosurgeon and only one so college is best fit - here is list of all surgeons in Georgia ACVS - Diplomate Directory |
i am going for the teadhing hospital for now. they want to work with my vet and either refer him to do the correct treatment or get her to athens asap.. my mother doesnt know it yet but she might have to take a run to athens tomorrow if she needs to go there. the doctor from the university called me so quickly. that really made me feel good.. he was very concerned and calmed me down. she will get her xray tomorow..i am getting up early and i am not calling my vet i am going there to talk to him personally./ |
I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers to randiik, and hope you are on the right road to get your doggie treated. And to all the wonderful YT members who are going out of your way to help her, I think you are amazing. What a wonderful group to be a part of! Hope to hear some good news soon. |

Vicki, bless your heart for calling Randi and helping her through this. Randi, you sound like a wonderful mom to your little girl and I know you will do what you can to make her well. Please update us tomorrow after you see the vet, okay? :big_hug: |
I am keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. I will be checking back tomorrow for sure to see how things are going.. I will be thinking of both of you all day tomorrow. Safe trip to the school hon.. |
This is the reason I think the University is a good idea. You can go during emergency hours and not have a referral in some cases. We have vacationed in GA with Ellie before, and I looked for vets before we went. My plan was to use the University as an ER vet because the other emergency vets did not get good reviews. |
Good Morning I woke up with this on my mind and I was just checking in. I am so proud of all the YTERS who have stepped up to the plate to help Randi. She is a sweet 53 year old lady that I just adored talkig to last night;) I heard in her voice all the things many of us have truly gone through and my heart broke for her but the BEST NEWS is this. This is a good case. She is willing to listen learn and be advocate to help others all she wants is to get her baby well and will do it at all costs. I was looking for a update but it is rather early so I am sure when she has news she will be back to post about it. I am so happy the doctor she talked to last night was so helpful and cooperative. Dwerten (Debbie) YES thank you so much ! :) LadyMom Thank you :) If available ( and I tend to make myself available when needed) no matter what .................... I will do the absolute very best I can ... I owe a debt to all the people who have helped me it is a DEBT CALLED GIVING BACK! Cant wait to hear the good news on this baby! Vicki |
I have nothing medical to add to this thread but just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers for you and your baby. Bless all the YT family for their knowledge and help with this little one! |
good morning YT ok i have good and bad news.. the good news is that i have roriee right here in front of me and she is lifting her head up and knows me totally.. she fights to get into my lap and to have me hold her but right now i put her in her bed to rest quietly. i have her meds and know how and when to administer them. the bad news is: i do not have a way to athens. my vet is willing to take the xray on monday but that is 2 days away and even though she is responding a little bit to the steriods she still is stiff and yelps when moved.. not always but still she does. she does calm down when i talk to her. i have my baby in my arms so i do not feel so empty. i can do 1 of 2 things.. 1. wait until monday to get her doctor here to do the xray.. he didnt have the staff to do it today and he has never treated this aai before.. he is calling in a referrel to the hospital in case i can get her there so they will be expecting me. 2. find a ride to athens and hit the road asap. but my car is not is good shape.. tires, oil change, and generally the car is not safe to go on that type of road trip. i do not have the funds to rent a car either. sooo.. we are going to rest quietly for now and try to figure out what to do. any suggestions would be great! she does know me much better today. all she wants is for me to hold her and she is calm in my arms. god i love this baby. |
Are there any internal medicine/specialist offices near you at all? Or is Athens the only option? These specialty places are usually open on Saturdays. There may be other vets in your area that could do the xray today, too. |
