| Post-spay UTI My 6- month-old female, Lexie, was spayed on Saturday. We were able to bring her home Saturday evening, and noticed that she had blood in her urine within a few hours. We called the vet, who said this can sometimes be a normal spay side effect. However, it had not cleared up by Monday, and Lexie began having these "pee attacks" in which she would run around our apartment squatting every few feet and peeing several drops at each squat. These attacks would continue for seven or eight squats, or until my husband or I interrupted/distracted her with a favorite toy or treat. The vet then felt that she probably had a UTI and gave her an injection of a new antibiotic, Convenia, which stays in the dog's system for 14 days and automatically releases. Anyway, the blood in the urine completely cleared up within the first 36 hours, but the "pee attacks" are still occurring about once per hour. She has been on the antibiotics now for about 2 1/2 days (not quite 72 hours). Should I be concerned that the urgency has not decreased yet? Is it possible that because of the recent spay it is taking her awhile to bounce back? Any insight is greatly appreciated! |
