1st day home.... Snick had a great evening and even a better night. We put his playpen by our bed but he did try to climb up a bit so we brought one of his beds into our bed and he slept like a rock from 10pm-8am. He didn't move, of course I was up most of the night but did manage to get a decent nice sleep. This morning he went pee and he ate like a HORSE, I have not seen him eat that fast in a long time so that was great. Giving him his meds is like world war II and he puts up a fight but I manage. I hate giving him his meds, he hates them, esp the tramadol, wow, he gags!! He is also on Metacam and Clavamox. Alot of drugs!! I have Metacam for 30 days and Clavamoz until it runs out. The vet said to give him Tramadol for 3 days and then if needed. I did just take him out for potty and he squatted to poop but nothing came out :(. He is probably constipated which makes me sad. He has started moving around ALOT!!! While going outside for potty I let him have a very short small slow walk and he did use his leg. That's a plus!! The surgeon told me to this everyday to help his knee heal. I hope I;m doing everything right. I have a feeling tonight will not be as peaceful, I know Snick and he will try to move around so looks like I will be on the floor and him in his playpen. I am so happy his pen is working out b/c having to put him in a crate would KILL me. He is not trying to stand up or jump up at all so I pray it stays that way. I love him!! -Viv |
Snickers Hi Viv: Hooray!!! So glad to hear little Snickers is doing so well and eating etc. You must be so pleased to have him home safe with you again, and to have the horrible surgery over with. Within a week you will find it hard to contain him. LOL. The constipation is usual and could be the drugs or the fact that the poor little thing was all cleaned out before surgery. I am sure someone here or the vet will be able to help if this continues. Sorry to hear he hates taking the drugs so much, but perhaps a little treat will make it easier for him. Anyway, so happy for you and hope you both sleep well tonight and that Snick is soon fit and well and running around. God Bless you little Snickers and keep up the good work. Hugs and warmest wishes. :) |
SNICKERS POOPED!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! :):):):) -Vivian |

So Snickers is doing super great. He does want to move around so once in a while I put him on the carpet and hold onto him and let him walk a bit slowly. He's such a peanut and a fighter. For anyone who has experienced this, how long was it until you saw enormous gains? Meaning, how long did it take for your pup to start using the wounded leg? Whenever Snick walks, he does use the leg, but once in a while he will try to go too fast and pick it up and use 3 legs--I know thats a NO NO!! Thanks:) I'm so proud of him!! Bo--Softee collar is working great....lil bugger does want to lick at it once in a while!! xoxox- Vivian |

Awww, be careful of him tripping on the carpet or pushing on the leg! I know it is tempting to let them get some freedom, but just remember, in the long run he will be sooo much better. It will be here before you know it. :) I am glad that the collar is working out. :) Give little Snickers big hugs and kisses from all of us. :) |
Viv! I am sooo happy Snick is being such a trooper! We still have him in warm thoughts! hugs to you both |
I just had to check in on Snicky. I'm thrilled he's doing so good! :D |
Hey gals... Thank you so much for all the kind words and thoughts and prayers, they are REALLY helping!! Snickers is doing fantastic, he is almost back on his regular poop schedule:) and he is eating very well and dealing with the pain very well also. I hate giving him his meds, it's such a battle but I found a new treat which he goes bonkers over--freeze dried tripe!!! Who would have known dogs would love something so nasty!!?? But with it being freeze dried, it doesn't stink hardly at all!! Yay!! He knows after he takes his nasty meds he gets it so it makes it easier for all of us!! Each time we do therapy and he walks to go potty he is using his leg ALOT!! I am so happy, he does lift it and do the 3-legged hobble a tad bit but he is using it more than he is not. :) The toddler playpen is working perfectly. He has not jumped up or tried to get up in his hind legs at all. This morning when hubby left him, he knew it was a work day and didn't make a peep and didn't jump up when he left. I am so relieved!!!!! I just wish we could fast forward to Christmas right now so he could be so much better quickly!!!!! xoxoxox- Vivian ps...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU ALL ARE SIMPLY THE BEST AND SUCH SUPPORTERS!!!!! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!! |

So happy to hear the Snickers is doing so well. This must be so hard on you too. Hang in there it sounds as if before long all this will be behind you. |
A little scare last night...but all good now WHEW!! So last night, I was washing Snick's beard which was full of nasty medication since he loves to NOT take it and just spit it out!! So much like a human child I tell you!! My husband tells me to look at his wound and I do and I see THAT THE EXTERNAL DISSOLVABLE STITCH IS OUT AND HAS UNWOUND ITSELF FROM THE ENTIRE CUT AND IS HANGING IN HIS INNER LEG BY THE OTHER SIDES KNOT!!! OMG I freak like the freak I am and then see that his scar is completely in tact and remember that the surgeon put internal stitched on Snick as well. So anyway Snick is chillin, tottally fine and I just cut the majority off so nothing pulls on it and leave the part that is intact. My husband did confess NOT putting on his softee collar that day and I could KILL him, what if SNICK CHEWED AT HIS SCAR!!!!!! Thank god he did not do any harm. My DH felt like crap:(. This morning we talked to the surgeon and the doc and they said it's all good. THANK GOD! They said the external stitch was a loose one and that it was just holding things together until it fell off but most likely Snick messed with it but it's fine. GEEZ!!!!!!!!!!! We also informed them that Snick uses all 4 legs when walking the little he does and they said he could be out when we were home as long as he was not running like a maniac and NO JUMPING. I'm glad he doesn;t have to be in prison 24/7 anymore. I love him... Snick & Viv |

That is great news that all is well! Whew! I am glad that no harm was done. Bad DH, bad DH. ;):D I know that you will keep a close eye on Snickers, but please just be real careful with him being free and out of jail! I am glad and I know how glad you are that he doesn't have to be confined any longer but as I just commented on Moose's thread earlier, this little bit of patience will pay off a so much in the end. :) You've come this far, just be careful, the end result is so close. :) Give Snickers big hugs and kisses from us. :) |
Yeah! Snick has gotten the Get Out Of Jail card!!!!!! Just another step in the right direction. Take it easy on yourself, and DH this is quite an ordeal to be going through. You are doing so great and Snickers is lucky to have you.:aimeeyork |
I was wondering about the hairnets Bo:) LOl..... Snick is only out of jail while we are home and we have to monitor him like a hawk so he doesn't run or jump. While we are at work, jail it is!!!! I'm just so proud of him for using the leg so much!!!! :):):):):):):):) -Viv |
