Moose Recovery Pictures! 4 Attachment(s) The first picture is the morning of the surgery- that was the last time I'd be looking that put together for a few days! The second is me looking a bit more frazzled (haha) and Moose resting nicely in his Softee Collar The third is Moose this morning, finally looking a bit more normal and resting on his blanket. The last is from the 1st day after surgery where he was bundled like an egg and I couldn't take an eye off of him. I'm so glad today is better for you both! I think the sleeping is perfectly normal after a surgery like his. Can't wait to see the pics. :) |

It's great now! At first of course he wasn't too happy about wearing it. And he could wiggle out of it and get to his stitches, his neck is absolutely miniscule. But I started fastening the velcro better and he's finally getting used to it being a part of his life for a little while. It's the only way I've been able to get an ounce of sleep! |
Moose is looking good! I don't know if the vet said anything about icing his incisions but i think it helps the itchies. we'd recommend icing each incision 4 times a day for 10 minutes each. it helps with the swelling and redness, plus it numbs the area so he can't feel the itchies. :) If you have an ice pack, wrap it in a paper towel and hold that over the incision, or you can make plain ice popsicles and use that. we'd do that with paper bathroom cups and tongue depressors. icing can't hurt and it might help. however if he struggles while you're doing it then don't bother, you wouldn't want to make it worse. Most dogs tolerate it just fine. |
Would a warm compress work just as well? Might be easier on him than cold ice? |

Awww, little Moose looks so cute sleeping upside down. I guess with all that is going on with him, that's the one spot that doesn't have a boo boo!:winky: I hope this means that the worst is coming to an end. It sounds as though he may be getting a little relief. Remember, just because the meds are stopped doesn't mean that it's all out of his system. There may not be as much in it but still some residual effects. I bet you never thought you'd be so happy to see poop before! lol Boy, the things we do for our little furbutts! Or should I say, the things they do to us! :rolleyes: I am glad that the day is a good one. Maybe mommy will be able to get a good full nights shut eye tonight! and before you know it, Moose will be :doghop:. Yay!!! |
I sure hope so! He really has seemed to do much better today which makes me feel so much better too. I can already see that the part where I have to contain him is going to be so hard! I've never wanted to take a picture of poop before but last night at 2 am was a close one, haha! Hopefully I can do an update tomm that I did get a full night's sleep : ) You have another model for the Softee Collar! |
Moose looks adorable, I love all his photo's but especially the one on his back, our Teddy sleeps like that too. Here's wishing him, a continued good and speedy recovery. |

Good Morning Moosey Update Moose and Mom had a pretty good night last night! Slept peacefully till 1:30, then again till 4:30, then again till 7:30. :thumbup: He pooped again this morning and is still eating very well- so glad he still has his normal appetite. He is still eating chicken and rice and won't touch his kibble but I'll try to return him to kibble once he recovers a little more. There's no harm in feeding boiled chicken and rice for a while right? I know he's not getting as much protein as usual from his kibble (Evo small bites). Also, boy oh boy, what in the world must Tamadol taste like?! Moose has the worst reaction to that taste than I have ever seen a dog have. He shakes his head, tries to bite me which he has never done and has to be held down by 2 people to take it. He does fine with the actual medicine but holy cow it must taste disgusting. I need to post a video, I've never seen anything like it! |
So glad to hear things are looking up! Trust me, in a few months this will all be a distant memory! Oh, and about keeping him contained, it isn't that hard and the reason behind it is because you have to. After going through the last couple days the last thing you would ever want is to repeat it due to a failed recovery! I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping him on chicken and rice for a while. I would keep some kibble available to him in case he wants some. You may also want to get him some probiotics to feed in between the antibiotic and pain meds- those can do a number on their tummies. Hope today is a great day! |
