A regimen of Diflucan (same thing used in humans) will knock it out of his system, where it lives esp. in the small intestine.
I've not heard of fatty acids being helpful for yeast, but probiotics are essential. Once yeast has assaulted the sm. intestine, you need to help re-populate the intestine w/ the healthy flora or yeast will just continue to take over. | also when doing probiotics which i use dds plus from vitamin shoppe which is 5 billion and it is acidopholus, biffidus and fos - you need to give 2 capsules on a plate and they will lick up 30 min before food as this coats the digestive tract first thing in am prior to anything going into the body. Then i give food then i give 1/4 tsp of coconut oil. I do not use fish oil as some dogs are allergic to fish and the best fish oil if you are going to do it is www.nordicnatural.com omega 3 as it is distilled so no mercury which can make them itchy. You have to be very careful of too much fatty acid supplements in this breed as they are prone to pancreatitis as i believe they have a high fat content in blood to begin with so if your dog has high trigylcerides on a 12 hr fast blood panel DO NOT DO FATTY ACID SUPPLEMENTS as your yorkie is even more susceptible to pancreatitis - while it is rare fatty acid can trigger pancreatitis and i have a yorkie that almost died of pancreatitis so he gets no fatty acids but my allergy yorkie dd does get coconut oil |
