Please HELP my yorkie
 

On Wednesday the 18 I took my yorkie to the vet. to get his eyes checked out because my sibling just got a new puppy and scratched my yorkie's eye. so they prescribed him some trioptic-p to heal it around 3:00. Later, I around 5:00 i washed my car with chemicals and tide him up by the tree where my friend put ant poison (i had no idea till i told her my yorkie was sick.) at 7:00 i bought my yorkie some bacon stripes that i never got before. thirty minutes later he puked it all up. 10 minutes go by and he is still vomiting again and again and again. he wasn't eating or drinking by himself. i took him to the vet the next day and they gave him some anti-biotics however he kept on vomiting so they stopped anti-biotics. the vet has no idea what it may be but thinks it a liver disease and he isn't getting better at all. his pee is is dark yellow and brown and he still doesn't eat or drink. doesn't like to walk and isn't himself. so i decided to go to st. paul (university of minnesota) where my vet suggested. we took him and they don't know they gave him an ultra sound and even they do plain to do surgery he would bleed to DEATH. his blood work is high or low. he has fluid in his abdomen. he is yellow. they gave him a feeding tube and were waiting for a test result Fri. for leptospirosis. he is back on anti-biotics. he is 1 and 6 months and my first yorkie. please any advice would help. thank you

I am confused, sorry, I am not sure what you hope to find here. I am really sorry you and your dog are going through this though!

Are you thinking that the ant killer is what made your dog sick? Do the doctors know about this?

What expectations do you have with us here? Are you hoping someone knows something the doctors don't know?

I am seriously asking these questions and not being a smarty person. I just want to try to be helpful and don't know how. Oh I feel so bad for you! I would be losing my mind. :(

Do you think he got into the ant poison?

First off let me welcome you and your little guy to Yorkie Talk.
You really will find a lot of caring, supportive and knowledgeable people here.
We may not have the answers but maybe some may have suggestions, or maybe they have had some similar experiences. The very least most of the people here will do is offer up prayers. I hope you keep coming back here.
It really is a great site with a lot of very special people.
That being said, I really don't have an answer for you as I have not had experience with something like that. I can however keep you and your little guy in my prayers.

I hope he gets better. Are they treating him for the ant poision? That could really make him sick. Please keep us posted.

Do you suspect he ate the ant poison? Did you tell the vet about
that poison?

Yes i did tell the vets he might have gotten in some ant killer poision but they do not think its that or sugar free gum, because in how bad shape he is in. however last night i bought some Milk Thistle and gave him some today too. He is still at the vet but when i went to see him he ate!!! he barked, he bites, he tries even taking off his cone ( to keep him away the feeding tube). he started growling at the vets and he made me so happy!!! thank you all for your support and prayers. it means so much to me. However he is still at the vet and they still have no idea what it may be. :)

Hi there, welcome to YT. I am sorry your yorkie is so ill. My first thought was that your baby was poisoned too . Even being around the chemicals is strong enough for a small yorkie to enhale some of it , and have it effect him internally. But, I am not a doctor. i hope he is going to be ok, and make a full recovery. I am glad he is feeling better today. Since it happened so fast, I do feel that it had something to do with the chemicals being used so close to him when he was outside. Those are highly toxic , and even medical professionals do not always know 100% what the effects it can have on a animal .

Oh boy, yes there is an ingrediant in sugar free gum that can kill
small dog's. Can't spell it. iLooks like you caught it in time. Glad to hear he's growling at the vet's.:p That's a great sign he's feeling better.

Milk thistle is great, it detoxes liver, hoping for a quick recovery

I have been bringing my yorkie home at night but i bring him back in the morining to the vet to get his meds. However when i bring him home he doesn't eat or drink or want to do anything.Which i think is strange because he does it at the vet. My parents want to end his suffering because we already spent 1,300 on vet bills. if his liver is failing i do not know what to do but i would like to be their for his last days. we are having another test result Friday to see if anything is improving. thank you for all of your prayers. :(

do the vets say his liver is failing? this does not make sense to me if he is that sick why is he not staying at the vets:(

We received the test and his blood work is getting better. So his liver is not failing but could be only damaged. We are bringing him home at night because the vet said there is nothing they can really do. but hope he eats and drinks by himself. so, it's really on him to get better. he had an ultra sound but couldn't find anything. however he still has fluid in his abdomen, because his protein level is still low. so wednesday were going back to the vet to get another blood work test done.

P.S. He doesn't like the diet he is on. with the bland food. any suggestions???

can you post to us what is high and what is low on lab work? That will help us. What food is he eating? Milk thistle helps the liver and so does juiced zucchini - you can juice the zucchini and put the pulp on food and put juice over the food as well. The liver can rebuild itself so it is a very forgiving organ. What were the pre and post bile acid tests? Natural balance vegetarian food is good for liver compromised dogs as it is really low in protein.

Do you have him in a warm area at night when you bring him home? Hardboiled egg and cottage cheese are more readily digestable forms of protein and less taxing on the liver. Jaundice (yellowing of the skin) is indicative of kidney failure. I would have thought they would have put him on IV fluids to help flush out the kidneys. And for as sick as he is, be in an ICU. Ask the Vet before making any changes. These are my thoughts and I could be wrong. Prayers for you and him ...

How badly was his eye scratched? If he can't see out of it, it might be what is making him dizzy and then through up. Just an idea.

The Jaundice , is actually an indication of something going on with liver functioning, not kidneys. . I hope the vets and professionals can and will find out excatly what is causing your baby to be so ill. The fluid in his abdomen, and his protein levels being very low. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your little yorkie .

at 8:00 at night my son passed away. he had liver failure and his health decreased rapidly. we took him to the vet and he said,"that with how disoriented tyson was there was only a matter of time before he slipped into a coma." so we said our good byes and he kissed us all. shortly after he was sleeping peacefully and gone from this world but remaining in our hearts. he was not just a dog but the greatest son a mother and farther could ask for.
