2 Broken legs? We just came home to find our Yorkie had jumped off our 2nd floor balcony onto rocks and we found him on his back clearly badly injured, but alive. It looks like maybe 2 legs are broken but all the Vet's are closed. We're laying him down and giving him plenty of love and attention but aren't sure if there's anything else we can do till the morning? We want to help him so bad but don't know what else can be done? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you. |
Most vets have an emergency number...CALL THEM. The dog could have internal injuries and may not make it till morning. |
OMG! I hope he is going to be ok! You better call the ER vet! Now! |
Poor thing. You need to get him to the ER vets ASAP heres a Emergency Vet Directory Enter Your Location Below to Find Emergency Vets Near You LocalVets.com |
Look in you yellow pages NOW! There are emergency vets! He could be in shock with serious internal injuries. Give him nutracal. Feel his gums to see if they are cold. If you don't have nutracal, you might give him sugar water, karo syrup or honey. |
I"m sure there has to be a 24/7 emergency vet in LA. Please call right away. Your regular vet should have an emergency number on their answering machine. Your pup could have serious internal injuries from falling that far and might not be alive in the morning. He needs to be see ASAP. please do everything you can to get him to an ER. Also do not move him around too much or let him move on his own. you do not want to aggravate any injuries. I pray your baby is ok. |
Here's a website that all you have to do is plug in your zip code and you'll find an ER near you. LocalVets.com He may have internal injuries....he needs to see a vet now. Do a google search.....a multitude of ER vets in the LA area. |
thank you Yes you're right, we're off to the emergency ER now. Wish us luck. Thank you. |
This is the second thread I've read about a dog and a balcony... I do hope you follow the advice of the others and call your vet for the emergency number. Saying prayers that your little one is okay! |

Saying a prayer for your little one. I know this was your first post, but please come back and keep us posted. |
OMG! This just made me sick to hear! I'm glad you're taking their advice and running to the ER Vet! Please update when you get back. Praying your little one is OK! |
I am so glad you are headed to the vets. I hope nothing serious is found. |
Oh dear! I was the one that posted the thread about our neighbor keeping her small dog on the balcony yesterday. I do hope that your little one pulls through and turns out to be ok! I'll be saying a little prayer! |
He's OK! Amazingly nopthing is broken, his legs were all twisted weird because of his concusion and he was still out of it. W-Rays came out clear, he got a morphine shot and just needs some rest. If he's not better in the morning it might be some head trama but hopefully not. Apparently because he's so small (1yr old) he was able to handle the fall (25ft) and not break anything. Thanks so much for all your advice and prayers. We consider ourselves very very lucky. |
Wow, that is great news! Give him lots of love! He's very lucky! |

Our prayers are with you and your wee one. |
Oh wow! That's a miracle. Praying he continues to do well. |
Amazing. I am so glad he seems ok after such a major fall. Thanks for updating. |
That is a miracle!! To fall that far and survive - with NO injuries!? Wow. I can't imagine your relief. Please let us know how he is this morning. |
Talk about miracles! Your baby has a guardian angel watching over him. That's wonderful news to hear. Prayer's coming that there was no trauma to the head when he's feeling better. Keep us informed. Please, no more balcony when your not there. Best wishes, |
Wow, very happy to hear nothing was broken. I hope your little baby is recovering from the fall. Hugs! |
The Morning He's not able to walk yet, his rear leags are very stiff and the front left leg very floppy. Poor little fella hasn't made a single noise the whole time. He's going to need allot of love and physical therapy to get him back on his feet but he's eating and drinking today and is definitely better than yesterday. My wife is staying home with him today and we have a Vet's appt tomorrow. The x-rays show no internal damage or broken limbs. Don't worry we're definitely not letting him on the balcony again. Thank you. |

Have you thought of plexi-glass on your balcony.....don't know the rules of where you live, but it would give him acess to the outdoors. |

or baby gates across the width of your balacony. I see that where I live for the little ones. Even chicken wire on the inside of the balacony. That you can't see from the road incase there are rules where you live. I will keep your little one in my prayers in hopes he can more his little legs again. Poor baby. |
I'd keep a close eye on symptoms of a spinal injury. That is a awful long way to fall and not have any injuries. I don't think a concussion would cause the legs to not work properly. I hope everything is ok and nothing shows up later. I agree with the others to somehow put something around the balcony so that this doesn't happen again. We put chicken wire around our porch so that the girls don't fall off. You can hardly see it and only if you are right up on the porch. Good luck and keep us posted. |
