Jake is Really sick... Please keep Jake in your thoughts today...he is currently at the vets on an IV. We are awaiting a toxoligy report as it appears he may have gotten into something? Tony and I are a wreck. Willow is fine. They both had their vaccines, rabies, and were tested for Lyme last Thursday. Everything came back negative. I gave them both Frontline Friday night. Jake started vomiting Saturday night. We rushed him to the emergency vet last night...we are so worried..our little “security guard" is now so helpless and weak... Please forgive my typos, I am typing from my wii remote as my laptop crashed... |
sounds like a frontline reaction :( call frontline on the box and ask what side effects have they had with this as that is what it sounds to me. Usually the reaction is within 12-24 hrs -- the flea protection is absorbed in skin and into the blood stream and can cause some dogs to get sick |
|
Oh no! Hugs and prayers to all of you. |
Did Jack have a reaction to the Frontline. If he was find on Friday before giving the dose it sure sound like it cld be the Frontline. I do remember reading here where someone else had the same reaction. Hope he gets better real soon. |
Sending prayer's Jake's way for a complete recovery to whatever has made him sick. So scary. |

Oh Linda! Poor little Jake. I don't know much about this sort of thing, but my first thought was a reaction to his Frontline or maybe vaccines. I will keep checking back for an update full of good news. Rory sends extra love and kisses to her long distance boyfriend. I will keep you all in my prayers. :hands: |
Thought maybe there was an update on Jake. Hope all is well Linda. Hugs, |
Linda, I am petrified of Frontline. I only give it to my boys now when I will be home with them all weekend. I am willing to put money on it that Dexter has a mild reaction (which is enough to scare me) when I give him 1/2 a dose of it. I split one tube between both my boys and my Dexter becomes lethargic and very very needy and vomits multiple times when I give him frontline. Oooh poor Jakey! :( I am soooo sad! I pray he heals quickly and fully. (((HUGS))) |
Sending prayers to you and Jake, Hope that he starts feeling better soon. |
You know I did notice that my Pebbles,( who is only 4lbs) was a little mopey the day after I gave them their frontline. Coco and Pebbles split 1 and Trixie gets a whole one. I'm sending my prayers for you and your baby. Hopeing he is doing much better. It's so scary when they are sick. Best of luck. |
I hope Jake is ok. |
Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. I don't know what I would do without YT. We picked up Jake about a half hour ago. He is very weak and listless. The good news is that his bloodwork came back negative-they did a CBC and the vet said all his vital organs are fine. He has to go back tomorrow though all day again to be hooked up to the IV so they have left the catheter in his arm. He really hasn't eaten anything since possibly Friday night or Saturday morning. The vet does not want us to give him anything either, due to the vomiting. Jake of course probrably wouldn't eat or drink anything anyway but how long can they go without food? The Vet did load him up with fluids for the night, a bolus? I don't know, I'm still so concerned... |
I'm so sorry your little Jake is ill. I'll pray for his quick recovery. Did the vet say if thought Frontline might have triggered this? |
I'm so sorry this is happening. I hope Jake gets well soon! Please keep us updated. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way! |
Throwing up again OK so this can't be good. The vet said Jake did not vomit all day, yet he just threw up on the couch beside me! It smells medicinal, but how can he vomit with nothing in his stomache? I am sooo worried about my baby... |

Well, I was happy to see he was at least home with you for the night, but I am seeing he just threw up. :( Lane actually throws up if her stomach gets empty. If she eats dinner around 5:30 to 6:00 and then goes until morning without anything substantial (not counting "potty" cookies), she will often throw up just yellow bile looking stuff in the morning. I just started giving her a snack before bed time and now she is fine. I think it could be possible that Jake is having the same thing happen if his little stomach is so empty. Also, just the stress of being transported home could have made him nauseas again, maybe? I am no expert, but you know him best. If you really get concerned and/or he can't stop throwing up, I'd take him back to the ER vet. I know it will be impossible, but try not to worry too much. I'm sure Jake is picking up on some of your anxiety. It is REALLY, REALLY, GOOD news that his bloodwork is normal, and all his vital organs are fine. I am still praying for all of you. :hands::hug: |
Toby will also throw up if he doesn't eat properly, the yellow foamy stuff, and he also gets sick when he gets really nervous or stressed out. I would think Jake might be a little stressed after all his little body has been through. I agree though, you know him best, and if you have any doubts I wouldn't hesitate to take him to the ER and get checked out. Prayers for all of you that things will be just fine. Please keep us posted. |

Just another thing to think about, I have been so nauseous that even with a completely empty stomach I was throwing up nothingness. It can't be much different for dogs. Is he on any type of anti-nausea meds? Any idea when the vet will allow him to eat - you are right without any food to sustain himself he has to be very weak. :( Lots of hugs and prayers your way. :hands::hug: Please give him all the extra love he can stand from us. |
Oh Linda prayers to your little family! I know Jake will pull through, I just know he will. My heart goes out to you guys, you must be beside yourself with worry! Its such a helpless feeling when we can do nothing but give loves to them. Keep Jake close and warm tonight and I pray tomorrow brings some good news and no more vomitting! (((HUGS))) |
Thanks again for your posts Ashley, it makes me feel so much better knowing people care and are out there routing for him. The vet asked that we keep Willow away and let Jake rest. He is still asleep beside me on the couch. He is too weak to do much else. I only hope and pray that we caught whatever this is in time...... |

I'm new here but so sorry to hear about your baby boy! I'm sure just being home with you sick is still better on him emotionally than being at the vet all night without you. My 9 and 10 years old yorkies have been overnight at the vets a couple of times and I always bring an old shirt I've slept in or worn so they can put it in their cage so they feel comforted, vet told me it's a good idea. take care..my prayers are with you! |
Still thinking about your little guy. Here's hopeing that tomorrow is better than today. Sending hugs and kisses from Coco, Pebbles and Trixie :hearts-xx:getwellso |
We are here thinking about Jake pushing good wishes and lots of love your way. |
I am so very sorry that your little Jake is so sick. I will keep him in my prayers.:hands: |
