| Infection?? Hey everyone.. So Lola was officially 12 weeks old on July 9th. And last week I took her to the vet because she wouldnt quit digging her ear and crying(I suspected ear mites) and of course, we walk out with ear mite treatment and an $82.00 bill. Then Thursday(July 9th) I noticed she had green gunk in her right eye and I cleaned it out and again suspected possible infection or cold. I called the vet and got her an appointment for today(July 11th) and they checked her out and found that she has a temperature, eye infection and possible cold/respiratory infection(her lungs sounded like rattles). The vet gave her a shot of penicillin, eye ointment and sent us home with Clavamox and more eye ointment. Walked out with another $70.00 bill. But, on the way home, she puked twice(never has gotten car sick before) and shes acting kind of lethargic. Our vet is out of the office now and I called animal urgent care and they said if she pukes again and has possible diarreah that she might have Parvo! I am so worried about her I don't know what to do. She seems to still be playing and chasing her big brother, Bunz, but she gets tired easy. Is this from her having a cold or could she really have Parvo?! The urgent care said to watch her closely and make sure shes eating and drinking. I've never had a dog get so sick so much. Bunz was always healthy, still is. Only time he sees the vet is for his shots. I'm just so worried about her, I keep hoping its just a cold and she'll be fine. Please keep my baby in your thoughts.. Thanks, Jess & sick Lola bug<3

| What shots has she had? Did the urgent care want to see her? I would think with her being so little if they suspected parvo that they would want to see her right away.

| she probably got sick from the shot as antibiotics can cause them to vomit and a strong dose from a shot is stronger than pill and more long acting. My guess is the antibiotic made her sick to her stomach. Keep an eye on her as some dogs can have an allergic reaction to antibiotics as well. I do not think this is parvo. Parvo is bloody diarhea and yes green goo in eye is an eye infection for sure info on parvo Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs sounds like the ER are a bit quick to jump the gun to parvo to me i would say that is a red flag that the er is not the best facililty freaking someone out like that -- crazy also we had shih tzu too and yorkie sadly have more health issues and poor immune systems as they are inbred so much as they are one of the top 3 breeds this leads to problems like you are experiencing sadly -- i have a girl yorkie with a poor immune system. Be careful not to over vaccinate and titer when you can after puppy shots. Do not pluck ears as that can cause infections in the ears. Last edited by dwerten; 07-11-2009 at 03:37 PM. |

| ***update*** So Lola seems to be much better today. No more vomitting, no diarhea, back to her happy self. Shes getting Clavamox twice a day and erythromycin eye ointment twice a day as well. We took het to the inlaws today so we could swim and before I knew it she jumped it. Shes definitely back to her spunky self-haha. Thanks for the replies and the information on Parvo.
