How do you know she dosnt have ear mites? has your vet told you she hasnt? Sounds just like what Poppy would do when I first brought her home, shaking her head and scratching a lot. Took her to the vets twice and only the second time could they tell me she had mites, because they couldnt see them until the eggs hatched and they were moving around. You cannot see them with the naked eye. You need to take London to the vets ASAP because she is uncomfertable if not in pain, ear mites are VERY uncomfertable. |
Hi everybody...Im new to this forum, I just want to respond to Katerina post about her doggies ear problem..My 11 year old Yorkie Tara who I love really dearly suffered really badly all of 2009 with a problem which started out simular to your doggie Katerina. She was on antibiotics and steroids for almost a year. Be carefull to ascertain from your vet if her eardrums are indeed still intact..as in my doggies case the infection had caused her right eardrum to burst and the infection had extended inwards to her middle ear. What is significant here is in the absence of the eardrum as a barrier any topical medicines applied can reach the delicate bony structures necessary for hearing ie the malleus, incus and stapes and some drugs particularily antibiotics are known to be toxic to these structures..In this case it is imperative that antibiotics and other drugs are given by the oral or iv route only..But dont worry your vet will know this. To end on a positive note my Tara had to have a general anaesthetic and a deep inner ear specimen was obtained for culture and it turned out to be caused by the mallasezia yeast and she was put on the specific medication for approx 5 to 6 weeks orally with success. The moral of my story is although I have to admit it was expensive..I urge you to act now and hopefully you can get this nasty infection before it causes damage to the deeper nerves and structures in your pets ears. Best of luck. |
Just wanted to point out the OP is over 1 and half years old. Katerina added her question about her Mindy to this old thread.:) |
