Callie accidentally got stepped on =*( Last night while I was in the shower (getting ready to go out for my birthday) my boyfriend tripped and accidentally stepped on Callie's head/shoulders. I came out of the shower and he had this horrible look on his face. Callie is always right by everyone's feet, curious about whats going on. He said that he lost his balance, caught himself and Callie happened to be under his foot :( He said he picked her up, put her on the bed, she deeply exhaled and then defecated all over the bed. :( Not good. She was shaking and whimpering and drooling :( when I came out to see her. She could walk, but she was limping on the right side and was favoring that side kind of walking in a circle. We rushed her to the emergency vet which is about 5 minutes away from my home. I sobbed the entire time, I thought for sure she was going to pass away in the car. The vet looked at her and thought she had head trauma. Wanted to keep her over night, start an IV to giver her Mannitol (a medication that draws fluid away from the brain) and take a chest x-ray to assure she didn't have any internal bleeding. She said she would call us in a few hours with an update. The hours passed by SO SLOW. The vet called and said Callie was acting a lot better after she got the Mannitol. The x-ray didn't show any internal bleeding. Chris and I were both so happy I started crying, again. The doc called this morning saying Callie would be okay to come home today. I picked her up from the vet this afternoon. She is acting her normal self, responds to her name, EATS, responds to "treat commandss" sit, stay, down etc. and has given me tons of kisses. I will watch her for the next few hours and make sure she is still acting fine. Not walkinmg in circles, seizing, falling down etc. How scary, poor Callie! That was the WORST birthday every. I knew I was dreading the 25th birthday for a reason..... so sad.... |
OMG how horrific! These babies are just so delicate. I try to teach everyone who comes into my house that they need to learn the yorkie shuffle. I hope your baby will be okay. |
Wow. Quite the scare! Thankfully it was just that...you'll have to have a redo for your birthday...BTW ~ I would love to be turning 25 again! |
How horrible!, I'm sure your bf must have felt pretty crappy:( Poor Callie, I am so glad for you and her ( and bf) that she is doing better!!!:) |
Im so glad she is OK. I can't imagine how scared you were. |
OMG! Thank goodness she is all right! You did the absolute right thing rushing her to the vet right away. I can only imagine how scary this was for you and your boyfriend. We will keep Callie in our thoughts that she recovers fully and quickly. Big hugs |
That must have been terrifying! I bet your BF felt terrible too. I know I do when I happen to step on puppie toes and hear that little yelp! So glad to hear Callie is doing so much better now. Wish her a continued smooth recovery! Hope you can re-celebrate your birthday today or another day. That definately should not count as a birthday! |
Poor Callie, so sorry about her accident. So glad she is doing better and was able to come home. So happy you took her straight to the vet and didn't wait. That can mean all the difference. |
Put a bell on her collar so you know where she is. |
OMG! I'm so relieved to hear that your baby is acting normal. Give her lots of hugs and kisses. |
Glad Callie will be okay.. So glad she's coming home and will be okay!!!! |
I am so happy Callie will be Ok. They have a way of getting under foot and I know your BF will be extra careful. Happy Birthday! |
That is so scary!! I cannot imagine what you were going through... I'm glad you got her to the vet and she is doing better now. What a horrible birthday! :( |
Gosh, I am so sorry for Callie's accident . I am glad she is home, and will pray that there are not further signs of trauma. It makes things so much worse when it was your day to be happy. :( My thoughts are with you, and Callie. |
After watching Callie for an hour and taking the bandage off from where the IV was, she was still walking a bit odd. I also noticed a scleral hemmorhage (bleeding into the white part of her eye) on the left side. I called the vet and they told me to bring her back. The vet said that she is probably just sore, and this is why she is walking strange, all of her reflexes are in tact and another dose of mannitol would not help. She gave me eye drops for her eye and apologized profusely for not noticing the eye before she okay'd her discharge. No charge for the drops or visit back. Callie has gotten TONS of treats, hugs and kisses from both myself and the boyfriend today. She is pretty sleepy but I think I would be too. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers :) |
