Glad to hear she's on the mend! Don't beat yourself up for letting them play, dogs need to have fun! Keep us posted on her progress. |
I'm glad to hear surgery went well. We can never protect these little stinkers from all the things that "could" happen to them. Just like us, accidents happen to them. We can take the usual precautions and watch them carefully, but there is no way to keep them safe from everything. :) I hope she heals quickly - sounds like having her rest will be challenge!!! |
Belle came out tonight, she has 4-5 stitches and is using her leg most (99.9%) of the time. Apparently she is not familiar with the term "bed rest" and so is behaving normally! Trying to run around etc... For 4 weeks she is not allowed to run, jump or generally be a puppy in case it dislodges her screw and pin. The injury is very common (apparently) and is known as a "lateral condyle". She has to be crated for large parts of the day and this is proving quite a challenge for her as we never confined her before. Any ideas for making her confinement more entertaining???? Please let me know! |
Let her have a toy or something to chew on when she's bored. Take the crate from room to room with you so she still feels like she's with you instead of left behind. It might help if you face it so she can see you too. Hope she's good as new soon! |
Ahhh, poor baby. I am glad that surgery went well and she is on the mends. There is nothing worse than seeing them in pain. Please don't blame yourself, things happen. Hugs to you and Belle. |
I'm sorry your furbaby got hurt, puppies are puppies and do what they do best, play. It's not anyone's fault just a terrible accident. Glad her surgery went well. We wish her a speedy recovery. Hugs, |
Glad the surgery went well.. |
Have fun keeping her quiet and don't let her jump off of any furniture. Max was really tough to keep mellow when he got his casts. Even now with the two broken legs and no cast, he is almost as rammy as the other dogs. He really enjoys tug of war with the other Yorkies, but snuggles on top of the cocker spaniel when he wants to nap. The one thing that he is not doing is jumping off of furniture. When he wants down, he whines at me until I lift him down. Hopefully he's learned something from this on-going episode. Take care and give Belle a hug. Cindy :aimeeyork Mazie, Misty, Mikey, and Max |
Thanks, all. Lovely comments as always. Cindy - hope all goes well for Max for his surgery - do let us know! She is quite quiet in the crate, but still has her moments! She was chasing her tail in there earlier... |
1 Attachment(s) Here she is relaxing at DH's feet :) She is calmer than in the crate and he is loving having her back as well...look at her chicken leg  |

No cast? My vet said that Max will have casts. Let Belle know how lucky she is to not have a cast. Since she doesn't have a cast you probably have to be more viligent as to where she is and what she is trying to do. :) Cindy |

Oh Nooooo! I'm so sorry this happened! bless her little heart..she's such a brave lil thing! I hope she has a speedy recovery with no complications.;) I would confine her to a pen of some sort...and give her lots of toys and chews/bones or a kong to amuse herself with.;) |
I'm sorry to hear that your baby broke her leg. I know exactly what you are going through. Ellie broke her leg when she was 4 months old. She jumped out of my oldest son's arms. I know what it's like trying to keep them in bed rest. She had 2 pins put in and then taken out later after it healed. She's fine now and you wouldn't even know that it happened unless I said something. My prayers and thoughts are with you. |
