| help! 8 week old pup has seizure???? My 8 wk old pup, who weighed 1.3 lb at 6 weeks, has been sleeping a lot last 48 hrs. Half hour ago when i picked her up to check on her, she had a seizure in my hand. I gave her some corn syrup, and she is doing better....what could this be? Going to vet for vet check and 2nd shots in morning but what if she has another seizure? Any advice or opinions? Please. |

| If she has another seizure I would take her to emergency vet tonight.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | poor pup. how is she now? seizures in yorkie puppies can happen for a few reasons. They can be hypoglycemic, have a liver shunt, or another medical problem. I'd hold off on the vaccines and focus on the problem at hand. You might want to have blood work done on her tomorrow at the vet.

My furkids Donating Member | If she's been sleeping that much did she eat anything? maybe she was hypoglycemic. You should ask your vet about nutrical. A puppy that small shouldn't go without food too long. Their sugar will get low and they can become hypoglycemic. I hope she is going to be alright.

| I would get her to the vet asap.. I would also make sure she eats more often.. she is so tiny and almost too young to be taken away from her mommy..these breeders that allow babies this tiny to leave are unbelievable... then not to let you know what could happen to a small puppie if they do not eat often.. please keep us updated... anne |

She got her first set of shots already??? Wow, that was way too early to give them. I would get a diagnosis on this before proceeding with shots because giving them with some medical conditions and be tricky and dangerous. When your pup seized, when is the last time it had eaten?

They should not start the shots until she is 9-10 weeks and finish at 16-18 weeks. She still has antibodies from nursing that block the effectiveness of vaccines if given too early. They will all have to be repeated. This puppy was way too young to leave it's mother. Yorkies should stay with their mother until they are 12 weeks old. At her age, the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is great. Toy Breed Hypoglycemia | |
