Teddy is very ill and i need your help My 10 weeks old puppy teddy yesterday became very ill suddenly and started having seizures. I rushed him to the vet, they stablized him and sent him to sonora vet specialists where they are able to provide advanced care. They were able to stop his seizures but he is still very ill, the ruled out a liver shunt and are still not sure what it is. Does anyone know of any organizations to help pay vet bills. He is the love of my life and I can't imagine life without him. I am out of work and have drained most of my back up fund to save him. There has to be help out there to pay for vet bills to keep our love ones alive. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you Lorrie |
Have these been ruled out: Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (not common in pups) Distemper Microvascular Dysplasia Hydrocephalus What tests have they done so far? You could look into Care Credit but without a job, I don't think that's going to work. Maybe somebody has a list of organizations that can help. :( |
Ask your vet if you can make payments? I don't think they'd just let your pup die without medical care, at least I hope not. My prayers go out to you and Teddy, I hope you can get the help you need. |
Here is a whole thread with information about help with vet bills: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...vet-bills.html At ten weeks old, they couldn't have ruled out a liver shunt since a bile acids test results aren't accurate until they are 20 weeks old. What tests were done? Did you get a health guarantee from his breeder? |

I'm very sorry Teddy is ill. Unfortunately credit care will likely turn you down do to your job status. Any possibility of using a credit card or borrowing money somewhere? I'd be interested in hearing what tests have been completed thus far too. |
Could he have eaten something? that may have poisoned him? I am very sorry he is seriously ill. I will be praying for Teddy. |
This makes me so darn angry reading this. We have the ASPCA and others out there to help save abusive situations with animals. Then people get a pup or dog that needs life saving care. And if you don't have the money, they wish you luck and out the door you go?? That is so disturbing to me. If I was a vet, and guess I couldn't be, I would never turn a sick dog away. If I took a oath to help animals, the money would be 2nd, the care would be first. There should be a law to protect these poor animals! |
I am so sorry your baby is sick. I hope they can find out what is wrong with him. Have you called the breeder/person you bought him from? Can your borrow from family to help with the bills. |
Sorry Teddy is sick. Check into "pet insurance" its great. |
Why? No offense but why get a puppy if your financial status is not stable? Animals are like kids, THEY COST MONEY!! It is easy to see, I guess, falling in love with that cute little puppy. But an animal should not be purchased on a whim. That is how so many end up in shelters or euthanized. Hopefully you didn't get the puppy from a petshop |

I am sure that not every responsible dog owner has lots of money saved up in case of an emergency. I know many who don't and I know many who can afford to pay alot for their dog if they had too. If we are going to start judging who can and can't have a pet then maybe we should be doing the same for children because it is the same thing when it comes to finances! |

You wouldn't expect to not be paid for doing your job, would you? |

I do not think anyone needs to be judging anyone. She may have had a job when she got the puppy. No one thinks ok I think I may lose my job this year. At this time people all over the US that has always been hard working people some making alot more money than you and I is loseing their jobs. They did not do anything wrong, it is our government. As of June 5 my husbands job will be gone, we have had it make with over $100,000. a year job, but now that he is looking for a new job. There is not many of the jobs paying that. So please don't judge anyone, you may be next. |

I hope she got a health guarantee from Toby's breeder. He obviously has a congenital condition that will be very costly to treat. I suspect she's already spent well over what she paid for him which is all that even the best breeders will usually cover. Most only offer a replacement puppy. :thumbdown |

And I think a lot of people have kids without thinking it out fully, or are very irresponsible, too! I see it every day as I am in health care, people having child after child being satisfied with the taxpayer footing the bill for their kids healthcare, food etc. Like the octomom! I didn't mean to lecture this person but I see people who do irresponsible things expecting others to foot the bill or otherwise pick up the pieces. |

Yes, I probably would accept not getting paid in a few cases. Especially if I have been the pets only vet and received money from the owner over the years. Nothing wrong with a vet doing a few charity cases. Hell they have clinics for people who don't have money. The vets can do their own clinic. A vet puts a few hours in to help the sick animals. Each day a different vet puts a few hours into the clinic for charity cases. Doctors who make a million or more do it. Why not a vet? Is it beyond any person or vet to contribute to a little charity? :) |

To the OP: I'm so sorry that Teddy is so ill:cry: I hope and pray that you're able to find the resources to get him whatever care he may need. In the meantime, do contact the breeder where you got him and see if they'll do the right thing. I'll be praying for you and your baby:hands: |
How is Teddy doing this morning? |
I am sorry to hear that Toby is ill. I hope that he is okay. As suggested, contact the breeder and see if he/she will help out somehow. and as suggested, see if the vet will work with you. I just got care credit to help with Hot Rod's surgery so maybe try them, you can only be told no, but you won't know unless you ask. :) Good luck and hugs to you. As for those getting off the topic that this poor OP came on the board for, shame on you. She is reaching out for help and she is being judged. At least she is wanting advice on how to help pay her dogs medical bills and not just taking the vet for a ride, give her some credit, geesh!!!! The economy stinks and through no fault of there own, many, many people's lives and standard of living has changed-some drastically. Whose to judge anyone else? |

Regardless, what is done is done and the sick little furball that needs medical care is the main issue now. To the OP, let me first say that I am very sorry you are being faced with this heartbreaking situation. :( Unfortunately, you are not likely going to run across any organization willing to just foot the bill for your dogs medical care, be it vet or otherwise. Assuming that borrowing the money or putting it on a credit card are not options, my next step would be to talk with the vet and see if they will let you make payments. Look over the information in the link that was provided. Your dog is very young--only 10 weeks, so I can only assume you just acquired him VERY recently? As hard as it would be, I would contact the breeder and see what help he/she is willing to offer. Maybe they are willing to help you with the costs of care, or take the pup back and have him treated as need be. Or possibly you could find a rescue organization in your area that would be willing to take him and have him treated. (I know the thought of giving him up is not one you want to consider, but if that's the only way... HIS well being comes first in this matter.) Best of luck in figuring something out. Please do keep us updated. |
I'm sorry to hear your little one is sick...I have pet insurance and care credit. I was only working part time when I applied for the care credit...I have a credit line of 4000.00...as far as the pet insurance goes they will NOT cover a pre-existing problem...I would explain your situation to your vet and see if they can put you on a payment program...good luck with your little one. |

Lets just hope you dont loose your job and be in a financail bind some day and need to ask for help for your sick animal...it can happen to anyone!!! |
