My gosh the poor little thing, and poor mom. You sound like you have been having one of those months. I now that therapy will be just the thing to get her on the road to recovery. |
Sending prayers for Shelby that her body will heal on its own and she won't need surgery. |

P.S. - Tell Shelby that Tatum is really starting to hate being a jailed princess too. I think she's had enough of it by now  lol. |
Sorry to hear about little Shelby. She sure has had more than her share of misfortune. Hopefully the therapy will help her to avoid surgery this time. She sure has a good mom to take such good care of her!!:) |
Thanks for all the well wishes!!! Had a great day today, Shelbs was enjoying her time in the xpen..... and not holding her foot up near as much!!!! Will post again on Sunday (have company here and we'll be busy until then). |
Went to Therapy seesion today...and It went really well. Shelby had e-stim and laser therapy after an evaluation. I was told that the tear is definitely not a full tear and we will work towards our goal of stimulating healing around the area...... a tear cannot be "healed" but tissue surrounding it forms and actually her body will try to make a "fix" surrounding it with what is kinda like "scar tissue". Shelby LOVED getting her therapy and Seymour enjoyed the trip with us. He even showed Shelby that the treats from the therapist was "OK" to eat..:p (She was a little scared at first, not knowing what to expect..... the little gal has been thru so much she don't know what may be next... :( ) She is taking an organic compound that has some wonderful stuff in it. It is called Healthy Motion by Greendog Naturals. You can go to Green Dog Naturals to read about it. It has some wonderful ingredients and we are hoping that it works well for Shelby. Anyway......... it is late, and we are tired...... so I will let you know if I notice any changes with her on this supplement. |
Wishing the best for your little baby:aimeeyork |
I'm so glad the therapy went well, and that the tear may be 'fixable' on it's own!! I'm sure Seymour will be glad to get his playmate back. |

Yes, Seymour really wants his playtime back with Shelby...... she usually chases him when he has a toy. Now he gets a toy in his mouth and stands in front of her and growls...... just begging for her to play. Of course, she is not allowed to so she sits next to me on the couch and growls back. One of these days, she get back to "thumping him" again! :) |
Oh no :(. I'm so sorry this has come up. I will keep her in my thoughts. |
I would not be too upset. She is still early in her post-op period. My Gracie still favors one of her legs, now 2 years post-op bilateral LP surgery. The vet assures me that the repair is solid. It appears to be behavioral. They get used to favoring it pre-op when it hurts them. They don't understand what surgery is or what it is for, or that it is done to fix what hurts. So, post-op, they continue to try to protect it. With Gracie, she always went down stairs without using the bad leg. Now she still does that if she goes at the speed she wants. But if I have her on a leash and we go slow, one stair at a time, she does not favor it and actually stops favoring it for a time after that. For her it is a habit. I wish the best for your little Shelby. |

The surgeon has assured me that her knees are fine..... and the physical therapist agreed. There is a way that they move the knee that they can tell if the ACL has a tear in it..... and also they can tell if it is a small or complete tear. Shelby's is definitely NOT complete tear and I think that we have a good chance of recovery without surgery. Thank-you for your well wishes....... and yep, ONE STEP AT A TIME! ;) |
I've had five knee surgeries on three dogs and all five had ACL surgery done at the same time. |
Sending positive, healing thoughts your way!!! Get well quick Shelby...and please stay well. |

Shelby went to PT again yesterday...... and everything went well. There is one of the cutest little bulldogs that is at the rehab center. I will have to tell you all about her sometme. ANYWAY, I think that Shelby has been getting too many "out of the crate breaks". She is not getting worse or anything like that.... but I think that I can do better and not be so generous with potty break time and familyroom time. The PT suggested 3-5 minutes of leash time / walk time 3 or 4 times a day....... and Shelby has been getting 10-15 minutes 4 times a day. I know...... naughty Mommy!! I just hate keeping her caged up so much...... especially when we are all being mobile AND going in and out from the patio because it has been so nice out. (I did take her crate out to the patio for awhile yesterday.... and she liked it, but because we were doing yard work and etc. we couldn't sit there with her the whole time :( ) Anyway, looking forward to wonderful Sunday..... the weather is suppose to be pretty here!!! YAY!!! (Maybe Shelby and Seymour will get some more patio time today!) |
Poor baby. That's got to be so hard! How long will she need to be in pt? |
At the time, there is a schedule for her for a month ...... then we will proceed to the next step of physical therapy ...... strengthening. Hopefully all goes well and I am thinking it will take about 3 months twice a week...maybe more. |

Again I am so sorry you have to go through this.. Hope she heals soon. |
I'm just seeing this thread now. Sorry to hear that Shelby has a partial tear but it sounds like she is doing well with the physically therapy work. Keep it up Shelby! |
Update on Shelby Shelby is still going to Physical therapy 2x a week. She LOVES the therapist and also all the healing treatments. We did have a small setback over the weekend. The joint supplement that we were giving her didn't agree with her and she ended up with an upset stomach. After a trip to the vet, some pepto and LOTS of rest, she is doing MUCH better now. Of course, we are going to try another supplement with LESS fish oil. Our vet thinks that she may have had too much fish oil (her food also has it in it, so maybe no need in the supplement). Hopefully we will have a few more weeks of PT and then we can start the hydro-therapy & eventually some "free swimming" once we feel that she is healed enough to consider strengthening......... I think that we are on the right track.... hopefully she will continue to behave herself!! ........ she is really wanting to chase Seymour so badly! Looking forward to seeing so YT friends at a meet up Saturday..... it will be good for Shelby.... she has been so bored lately! (& Seymour, too) |
