Home from surgery and in soo much pain.. Vegas just had his bilateral FHO (Legg-Perthes) surgery on Friday and has come home, He won't stop whimpering and crying and sometimes really starts howling I have never heard him yelp so loud, He is on pain meds and antibiotic's but he just seems like he dying of pain, Is there anyone out there that has gone threw this surgery and can give me any advice on how the after care went, I can't stand seeing my baby in so much pain, its heartbreaking :( Thanks, Loni  |
I'm sorry, I can't help but I sure hope your baby is feeling better soon. I know that would be so sad to watch him crying. Hopefully someone can help you out. |
ooops sorry, double post |
Poor baby:cry: I'm sorry to hear that:( Hopefully the vet would give him a different pain medication, this one obviously isn't working. |
Poor baby. I would call the vet back and tell him what is going on. Perhaps the meds can be adjusted to deal with the pain. He should not be in so much pain I would think. Don't hesitate. Call the vet. I hope he feels better soon. |
Mya had this surgery about 2 months ago, and then 2 weeks ago he had to go back in because the bone splintered...and neither time she did scream in pain...I would call you vet and tell him the medicine isn't working as well as it should be. When I thought Mya was uncomfortable or in pain I would put a heating pad under a blanket on her bed and have her lay on it...it seemed to be VERY comforting and she would fall asleep so fast.... It is a journey, but these pups are troopers...Mya has been through hell before even being a year old...and she is happy as a clam on 3 legs :) she is slowly starting to use her leg finally...but it is a process... PM me if you have any questions! |
What pain meds did the vet give? |
My Chloe had the surgery in October of this year. She had a rough time recovering also, she cried alittle for the first week or so. She layed around alot and wasnt herself for the longest time. She also didnt use her leg for about 2 months,It may have been alittle longer. She is finally back to her normal self, crazy and full of energy.I cant remember what she was on I think it was Rymidel? Im not exactly sure about that, you can always call your vet and ask questions.I was worried out of my mind to,give it a few weeks and you'll notice improvement. When I knew she felt better I started putting her in my bath tub, with a harness on, and held her up alittle so she could swim and use that leg,it really helped her alot.Good luck with your baby,Im sorry to hear she is in so much pain. |
I'm so sorry your baby is hurting. :( |

Oh poor baby. I would call the vet and let him know what is going on. Hot Rod just had surgery and was on Carprofen (Rimadyl). We didn't know if this was upseting his tummy or not so we stopped in after 2 days. He doesn't seem in any pain though. He slept the whole time he was on it. Good luck with your baby. Please call the vet, he shouldn't have to be in such pain. |
Mya also had her right hip done. She was given Rymadil (anti-inflammatory), Clindamycin (Antibiotic) and Tramadol (pain med)....and a joint supplement that i am still giving her. |
Oh, man.....hate reading this because my Pommie is having this done on Wed. Am so concerned about doing 2 at a time. I am so sorry your baby is in so much pain. Hope you can solve it for him. Hugs and kisses to you baby. ~Joanne~ |
