| Yorkie Rescue | 07-06-2009 07:30 AM | Update on Quinn For those who still email me about Quinn... he is doing just great. I have attached his picture as my new profile photo. He isn't as pretty as some of the youngsters on this site, but I love him just the same. :)
We took Quinn to a specialist and there is nothing they can do for his eyes, so he will remain blind however he has learned to get around just fine. His hearing is not great either but if I clap near him he usually lifts his head. We do this every time we approcah him, so as not to startle him. He usually understands someone is near when we clap. And who doesn't enjoy a round of applause from time to time. lol:bravo:
We had to put a bell on his collar so when he starts moving around, I can hear that he is up. Sometimes he will walk into a corner or get himself boxed in somewhere in the kitchen and then he just cries. But I am always home and so I come to his rescue pretty quickly.
He has severe muscle atrophy in his legs and when I carry him outside to pee, sometimes the poor guy just falls over. My husband and I have been giving him some vitamins to help and we of course give his back hind legs a good daily massage. He loves it!
He has also learned to walk over to the sliding door where we have a thick cloth pee wee pad. He has learned to go on that and never misses. I wish I could say the same thing about our sighted dogs. Sigh.
Quinn has become a very special part of our daily lives. He doesn't play or interact with the other dogs but he can sense when they approcah for a quick sniff to say hello. All in all, he sleeps a lot and who doesn't deserve those long naps when one has lived as long as he. We are estimating his age at any where between 14-16.
He eats well and has gained a little weight. I add fresh boiled chicken to his meal everyday. We knows he enjoy it because it is the first thing he gobbles up. Of course, this will have to remain a secret, as the others in the house don't know.
We rarely get good pictures of Quinn, especially after having to shave him down. His fur was a mess and it took quite a lot of work and frequent bathing to get all the gunk off of him that he arrived with. But now he wears a sporty little striped polo shirt that looks just great on him. He gets bathed often and loves it when we put a fresh shirt on him and place him back in his newly washed bed. I hope someone is as good to me when I am 90 years old. lol:ladywinks
Quinn sleeps with us at night. But sometimes if he is sleeping soundly in the Kitchen or Den we leave him alone. There are nights though that he will cry out or bark when he realizes he is not with us. Then I will go get him and bring him back to bed. Yes, he has me trained well.
I cannot begin to tell you how much of an intregal part of our lives he has become. Even though we have had him such a short time and he is so old, I hope as long as he is not in pain, he will decide to stay with us for as long as he wants. I will miss him very much when he visits the Rainbow Bridge.
