| ![]() I know this is a yorkie blog, but you all seem so great I thougth i would ask here for help. My Shih Tzu had 3 pups on SAturday, they are all doing well and are 3 days old except the first one who can't suck from the mom, seems to weak, I fed her with a bottle last night and took to vet first thing this morning, I thought vet would try to tube feed but vet said puppy was too sleepy. Vet says sugar levels in pup are fine but pup has only 50% chance of surviving, she says I must continue to bottle feed every two hrs when I pick up pup. Should she not tube feed the pup? any one ever have this happen and have the puppy live? I've been praying so hard and researching everything I can. How can i save my baby? Thank you so much 415-999-8720 |

| ![]() Leslie, Im so sorry this is happening to you but you need to feed the pup every 2 hours and keep him warm. Put a heating pad under the whelping box. Do no lay the pup directly on the pad but under the box and just keep him warm and fed. You must feed every 2 hours...I would buy baby goat milk from petsmart and if you have to feed with a medicine dropper do so real slowly. I think 2 cc every 2 hours. But the key is it must be done slow or the pup can choke or get in his lungs...Good luck and I would go to another vet that specializes in small breeds. Good Luck to you.... |
