| Gucci might have swallowed a penny! Should i make him vomit or.. Will he choke on it? I am so worried right now... We are in the middle of moving and my husband AS USUAL wasn't watching what he was doing when he moved out a few things in the room and when I went into the room about 20 minutes later... there was 1 shiny penny and a button in Gucci's X-pen. I don't know if there were any other coins or anything so I have NO IDEA if he did or didn't eat something but I am beyond worried and sitting here in tears going through the what if's.. what do I do? Should i give him peroxide or wait and see? |

| Oh man, i wish I knew. Are you certain he swallowed it? I think I would just keep an eye on him and hope to see it come out the other end soon. I'd be afraid to make him vomit because it would bring it back to a possible choke??? If it's already past his throat, maybe let it go? I hope he's ok, sending the good juju for him! |

| I don't know if he did or didn't... When I went into the room he was in there with 1 penny and 1 button and he wasn't messing with either but he always messes with everything so I am wondering if he got something else before getting to those two items... I don't know what hubby did or didn't drop in there on his way out as I wasn't in the room I am so worried about him Quote:

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | If he's showing any signs of discomfort, I'd worry and call an emergency vet. If not, I would think you're OK for the night. I Googled around a bit, and most of the comments I found said it's not something you should worry about tonight. If he swallowed anything, which is unlikely, he's likely to pass it just fine. I'd keep an eye on his stool and see if he passed it. I'd call the vet tomorrow just to be sure. I'm sure an X-ray could spot it pretty quickly. It's not something you would want staying in his system. But again, if he swallowed it it's likely to pass on its own. Keep us informed, and good luck.

| Zinc toxicity is possible and would only take 1-3 pennies for a typical dog (probably medium sized). I would not induce vomiting with something like this because of the size and texture without vet oversight. I would call the vet immediately. Zinc Toxicity in Dogs

| I called the vet first things this morning, she said to wait and watch him and see if he shows any signs such as not eating, lethargy, vomiting, discolored urine etc. She said since I DON'T KNOW if he swallowed anything at all it's best to wait and see I know she will do an X-Ray if I request it but I don't know if that's a waste or not? should I just wait it out? I would think he'd choke on a Penny but I KNOW they have been swallowed by Yorkie's so it is possible. What do you guys think? Thanks for the replies as well! Quote:

I would probably wait and xray if I saw the slightest of symptoms unless Ellie's vet thought that we should xray immediately. When in doubt, I have her decide.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wouldn't induce vomiting ever for something this large - it could lodge in his throat. It sounds like you got some good advice from the vet, so that must be a relief! Keep us posted on the little fella.

| If Gucci swallowed it...you probably wouldn't find anything it the x-pen. Momo used to swallow anything & everything, so I know how freaked out you are/were. Your vet gave you some good advice...I think he should be ok. If he starts vomiting...then there might be a problem, but if he was ok throughout the night, i don't think you should worry. Good luck on your move!

| I hope Gucci is ok this morning! I really keep thinking a penny would be too big for him to swallow. I don't even think Curly could get one in her mouth as small as her chops are. Is Gucci a big boy? Either way, I hope all is well today |

| We just got back from the vet... he had NOTHING on his X-ray lol well NO COINS AT LEAST HAHA!! she said "well.... he's eaten A LOT of "STUFF" But NO COINS so that's good" lol.. His tummy had nothing that he won't pass ... My lil baby I am so relieved!! $158.20 later and he's fine... the things we do for these guys!! ::TRUTHFULLY:: I DON'T EVEN HAVE $158.20 to be spending but life without Gucci is unimaginable so I spent it.. .. I just couldn't risk the worry or the outcome had he in fact swallowed something.. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. We are dead smack in the middle of a Move so off I go to keep moving.. Thanks everyone for you concern and input on the subject.. it is highly appreciated. |

| Thank you for such a sweet comment!! this guy has stolen our hearts and I couldn't ever let him just "sit there" KNOWING something could be wrong... I would never be able to forgive myself. With that being said YES DH IS SO RELIEVED and will DEFINATELY be more careful.. he felt so bad.. and all he ever says is "I'm sorry... it was an accident.... come here lil buddy" then he hugs him and tells me "take him babe, we can't be without him" .. poor guy.. he feels bad, but he's only HU"MAN" so it is almost expected of him to make mistakes... he doesn't realize sometimes, how serious I am about stuff. I am just glad my baby is safe!!! Thanks again! |
