CeCe has HGE!!! We had to bring CeCe back to the vet today for a second round of SQ fluids. Our vet gave a definite diagnosis of HGE. She received more antibiotics, antiacid and anti-diarrhea med via injections and was sent home to rest. She is a very, very sick baby. Please keep her and Sasha (who lost her sister,Coco in June) in your prayers. |

aww, so sorry to hear that. Prayers for you and CeCe. |

When she perks up a little see if you can feed her and water. They need to be eating and drinking so they wont dehydrate. Feed her something bland... |

What is HGE? Sorry still learning...... |

Lady has had HGE three times. Did your vet tell you what CeCe's packed volume was? Subq fluids generally aren't enough unless her packed volume was borderline HGE. Most times they need to be hospitalized and given IV fluids. Here are a couple of articles on HGE: Canine Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) ~ Pawprints and Purrs, Inc. Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) |

Pee-Nut has HGE too and he was put on science diet when he was allowed to eat. He was not interested in it so the vet said I could give him boiled chicken and ricre. I hand fed him pieces of boiled chicken as he really wasnt interested in eating and finally he took it. Little by little as time went on he gained his appetite. He is on antibiotics for 7 days. It is so hard to see them so sick, my heart and prayers go out to you. |

What has been your experience with recovery time? BTW, don't you have a baby with Liver Shunt also, or am I confusing you with someone else on YT? |

Lady has liver damage from years of phenobarbital from seizures. She is also diabetic. Chances are if your Yorkie has a disease Lady's had it. ;) The packed volume is red blood count. Normal is 37-55. Anything over 60 is HGE. The first couple of times Lady had it she was borderline, between 55-60. Subq fluids, antibiotics and an anti-diarrheal did the trick. I did subq fluids at home so she wouldn't have to be hospitalized. The third time she had it her packed volume was really high, 75.6. She was in the ER clinic at night and my vet's during the day for two days on IV fluids. She was really, really sick. The recovery is pretty quick once they get the supportive care (usually IV) that they need. |

Hoping CeCe is feeling better. Cali vomited too last night and when I took her in this am she was dehydrated again. She was hospitalized and given IV fluids and I just got her home. Vet said she was doing good but she looks pretty tired. |
