7week old Just put some Kayro syrup on your finger and put it on his tongue, he has to eat, he is to small to have no nourishment. Is that pet store opened today? I would take him back to them. |
Just wanted to say that I hope everything goes well with your little guy! Please keep updating. |

I am curious, is it not illegal to sell a puppy so young in a pet store? |
We had to give our pup Karo syrup once. She was 13 weeks old and wouldn't eat. It was one week after getting her. She became very lethargic and shaky. We put the syrup on our finger and put it under her tounge. She was fine in minutes! We ground her kibble and put warm water on it to get her to eat. |
Welcome to YT! So sorry this new little one is so sick. You have had good advice. I'll pray for you all. Please update & let us know what the vet says too. Yes, he is too young to be away from his mother & litter mates - the bonding & nurturing that happens between 7-10 or 12 weeks is so important to these little ones. But you have him now - so make the best of it. I have mixed feelings about whether you should take him back to the petstore - not sure how well they would take care of him, but if there is a lot more wrong with him - I sure would hate for you to be stuck with that responsibility. |
feeling better already He is not shaking anymore and he seem a little more alert. Holding his head up better and not so shaky when he walks. We have force fed him a couple drops of the syrup by putting it under his tounge, he has had a teaspoon of chicken broth with puppy food "nuti source chicken and rice formula" and he is drinking some sugar water. I have called two vets and left messages so hopefully we will get someone to call us back. He is still whimpering but, he seems better as long as he is being held. Do you think we should try to get some puppy formula and a bottle or keep doing what we are doing until we can get him to the vet in the morning? |

I would keep offering him the wet food and hold him close to you i would not take him back to the pet store as he wont get the care there that he needs.Hopefully one of the vets you have been calling will get back to you soon. |
Puppy Cal is great also. I found it at Pet Smart. It has the corn syrup plus iron and other nutrients. |
Keep feeding him and giving him the sugar water . . .did you look at his gums? I'm just curious to see if they are pale or not . . . What was he like when you took him from the pet store? Was he acting normal or did he seem sick then too? Hoping a vet will call you back soon. |

Glad he is eating a little and less shakey. Do you have any 24 hour er vets in the area, they should be listed in the phone book. My Cali was like that when I got her and needed immediate vet care. I found the only thing she would eat was the canned Cesar's beef dog food from the grocery store. It is bad food but better than them not eating. Try warming the food a little too. I hope you can get him in today. Please keep us posted. |
It's good to hear that he's responding well. He probably doesn't need a milk substitute at his age but just make sure he continues to eat. Also, limit his playtime (once he starts to get active) to make sure he doesn't burn up all his reserves. It would be a good idea to get some Nutri-Cal and give him a dab a couple times a day for a while. Hopefully, someone will be home with him the next few days as he really shouldn't be left alone. He could go downhill on you quickly if he doesn't eat regularly. At this age, he should be eating 3-4 times daily. You can leave dry food out for him so he always has access to food but he really should be closely watched until you get over this hump with him. Best of luck. |
response His gums were a little pale but, not really. He wasn't real energetic when we got him but, we thought he was just scared. He was in the cage all by himself when we bought him. The lady at the pet store said that if he didn't eat right away to try putting cottage cheese in with his puppy food but, that didn't work and that is why we started this post. Thanks for all of your help. |
